It took hours. Long, long hours searching through the anomaly books. Reading every single page filled with strange creatures. At one point, you thought you were about to go crazy. Never going to find it. Never going to find it. The words kept repeating in your head until finally, you saw the name in the corner of the page.
"Ford! Ford!" You squealed and jumped up from your chair.
"Huh? You did?!" Ford seemed dazed out from the day's activities, but when he heard your joyful voice, his eyelids widened quickly.
You handed him the book, and he skimmed the page. "It is! That's it! I'll just sign out the book," he said while trudging over to the counter where a man had sat behind. You waited until he finished, and both of you headed back to his unfinished house.
While walking on the sidewalk, a loud voice stopped both of you.
"Stanford! Is that your girlfriend?" A woman, heavy of makeup, around your age stood opposite of Ford. He looked rather frazzled, and looked towards you for some help. You only shrug your shoulders slightly as a reply.
"Uh, no...she isn't. (Y/n) is helping me with my studies..." He tried to push forward, dragging you along. Her bright blue eyeshadow couldn't keep your eyes off of her. Like you'd wear that much makeup.
The woman's brows creased, and she crossed her arms. "Hm. Alright, then." She watched as you two walked away, and you could smell a hint of jealousy.
You glance over to Ford, who is as red as a tomato. He's trying to hide it, but just can't.
You stuffed your hands in your pockets, and no words were spoken on the walk back.

...

The day suddenly got hot. The house was very humid, and every now and then you would keep refilling your glass of cool water. And every time you'd get a glass of water, you would see Ford in his room writing in that large journal of his. You sigh, and place the glass on the counter, thinking you should help him. You trudged over to him, and cleared your throat. No answer. Just the sounds of a pencil scribbling on paper.
"Ford?" You tapped his shoulder, and he jumped upwards, his glasses lopsided once more. You made a face. "Need any help with your researching at the moment?"
"Oh, of course!" He started off before getting up from the chair he was sitting on. "...I should show you this first, though." He gestured his hand over to the staircase in the corner that was heading downwards. You didn't even realize it was there, so you tilted your head in confusion.
"What about?" You turned to Ford.
"It's something I've never shown anyone else before," he said before turning to you as well. "please,
(y/n). Don't tell anyone about this."
You really didn't know what was happening, but you decided to go along with it.
"You can trust me. I won't." You nodded your head at him and he lead you down the dark staircase...
