Javier Esposito peered around the corner, searching his kitchen to make sure his wife and daughter weren't in the room. Satisfied with his scan, he strode around the corner and into the room. He laid the black garment bag in his arms on the counter before grabbing an apple from the fridge. He took a bite out of it before striding into the living room, where he saw his beautiful wife Lanie, sitting on the shag rug, playing Barbies with their perfect 6 year old daughter, Abigail.
"Daddy!" Abigail shouted, thrilled to see her father home.
She stood up and ran to her dad, her Barbie still clutched in her small hand. Esposito scooped her up and spun her around.
"Daddy, look at that!" Abigail exclaimed, pointing over his shoulder.
When Esposito turned to look at what had his daughter so riled up, she leaned over and took a huge bite of his apple. Esposito's eyes went wide, and stared at Abigail, her mouth full and juice dripping down her chin.
"Did you see that? She just tricked me and stole my food!" He said, shocked his daughter was only 6 and already figuring out how to play him.
Lanie chuckled, standing up and walking over to her family.
"I'm not sure what to tell you Javi, you just got bested by a 6 year old. "
"Hey! I'm 6 and a half!" Abigail protested, and both her parents grinned.
"Okay, you're right. 6 and a half. Now do you want your present?" Esposito chuckled.
"Present?" Abigail asked. She was confused. It wasn't Christmas, her birthday wasn't for months, she didn't just get a report card with good grades, what was she getting a present for?
"Yeah! I picked something up for you on my way home from work!" Esposito explained.
Abigail smiled and grabbed her dads hand.
"Show me daddy, show me!" She squealed.
"Alright, come with me."
When the family of 3 entered the kitchen, Esposito picked Abigail up.
"Okay Abby, what's your favourite movie?"
"The Princess And The Frog!"
"Right, and who's your favourite character?" Esposito asked, already knowing the answer.
"Tiana!" Abigail shouted, holding up the Tiana Barbie still in her grip form earlier.
Esposito set Abigail down and grabbed the black garment bag off the counter. He opened the zipper to reveal a stunning green, sparkly dress, with a poofy skirt. It looked exactly like Tiana's dress.
Abigail's eyes went huge and she started jumping up and down before hugging her dads legs.
"Thank you Daddy! Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love it so much!"
"You're welcome Abs. I've actually got a present for Mommy too."
Esposito reached into his back pocket and produced 3 slips of paper. He handed them to Lanie, who read them and saw that they were plane tickets. To California. She looked up and stared and Esposito.
"Javi..." She whispered.
"The Cap gave us the week off. I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take Abby on her first big family trip. What better place for a first trip than Disneyland?"
Lanie hugged her husband, tears welling in her chocolate brown eyes.
"Thank you. I can't believe you managed to plan all this." Lanie sighed contentedly.
"Mommy! Mommy! Come help me put on my pretty princess dress!" Abigail giggled.
"Okay baby, I'll be right there." Lanie said with a smile.
Abigail ran up the stairs to wait for her mom.
"Javier, this is amazing. Thank you." Lanie remarked, once again wrapping her arms around his middle.
"Happy Mother's Day Lain." He said, kissing the top of her head.
