Gabbie's POV:
I woke up at 7:30 in the morning, the sheer weight of stress hitting me like a brick wall over today. Today's the day I run away, today's the day I get to live with Josh for the rest of my life and be happy with him.
Quietly, I stepped out of bed onto the creaky unreliable floor padding over to my wardrobe. There at the bottom was my old blue weekend bag. I could fit everything I needed in there with ease.
I grabbed the entire contents of my wardrobe and threw it into the bed, going through every item of clothing and sorting them into the 'Take' and 'Leave' piles. It wasn't hard considering the majority of what I own is black skinny jeans and black tank tops. Such variety.
I hastily folded the take pile up and squished them into the bag, making room for my other stuff.
Finally, forcing the bag closed, I had packed up all my stuff and was ready to go.
One problem- I needed to get my credit card from my mums room.
There would be no other way to get my money out of the bank otherwise.
I took a deep breath and braced myself, creeping through the doorway to the little drawer where she kept it. To my relief the card was in sight, tucked neatly into a corner on some old photographs of my mum and her mum. I sighed and crept back out of the room, being careful not to step on any more creaky floorboards as I left.
I decided to shower before the big day ahead.
Pulling on a hoodie over my torso and a pair of ripped black jeans I looked at myself in the mirror. The purple under my eyes became visible, probably due to tiredness or stress, and my slightly soggy hair laid limp around my face.
Why did Josh ever like me?
I sighed once more and left the room, bag in hand as the clock showed 8am.
I smiled to myself as I almost skipped to the forest. I was finally going to be happy, and with a guy who loved me.
"GABRIELLE ELIZABETH HEATON WHERE DO YOU THINK YOU ARE GOING."
My stomach lurched, I didn't dare turn around and face her. Instead I just ran. I ran and ran and ran to the forest, fear riddling me.
It's just like last time.
My mum was chasing me, her hand probably poised ready to slap me again and drag me back to hell.
Tears once warm fell down my face like ice from my glazed eyes. I couldn't ever get away from her.
My breathing fast and shallow, I kept on running, trying to find somewhere to hide or someone to save me.
A small glittering light caught my eye. Salvation! The van, with Josh, Ian, Matt and Mike all stood outside waiting for me. I screamed at them both in fear and relief, turning in their direction as I heard my mother's heavy breathing gain on me.
They all looked up at me and sprung into action. Matt jumping into the drivers seat, Mike and Ian jumping in the back with the door open for us to jump in and Josh running towards me.
I crashed into Josh as he grabbed my hand and pulled me to the van. I dived into the back, being caught by Ian. I flinched at his touch on my arm but allowed it as I watched Josh get in behind, slamming the door shut.
We sped away from my mum as she stood were the van once was, her chest heaving at every breath as she yelled profanities at us as she became nothing more than a silhouette.
"Are you okay Gabbie?" Josh shuffled over to me and pulled me into his side. The tears had dried and the relief set in for good, knowing that I was finally free from her.
"Yeah, I'm okay." I have him a reassuring smile and got up off the floor, sitting down on a seat.
"Uh Gabbie?" I glanced at Matt through the mirror and raised my eyebrow at him
"I'd just like to say that I am so sorry for what I did to you. I had problems at home too and I wrongly took my emotions out on you and others. I want to promise you that I will never ever do that to you again and if you could ever find it in your heart to forgive me then maybe we could be something that resembled friends?"
Something was different about him, it's like he had actually changed. His tone of voice seemed timid and slightly fearful and his actions seemed a bit more fragile and gentle.
"And-uh-we want to say sorry too, for what we did to you, we were scared of Matt's brother and we didn't realise that we could get out of this mess." Mike spoke up, pointing to Ian as well
I thought about it for a second; they really did seem to have changed.
"Okay, I forgive you all, but one sign that you're back to your old ways then you're out."
"Oh don't worry Gabbie, I'll take care of them." Josh winked at me and smiled, sitting on the seat next to me.
A new life with these four didn't sound too bad.
