"Fucking bitch!" He roared right in my face. Turning he threw the bottle of beer he was holding against the nearest wall. I flinched at the sound of shattering glass, involuntarily taking a step back.
"You disgusting wh-" he turned back to me.
"Stop! Keep your goddamn voice down he'll hear you" I shouted right back into his face, having taken two steps forward for the one I had taken back.
"Good I'm glad then he'll know what a joke his mother is" he roared back.
"ENOUGH!" Switchs presence took over the room.
We both turned to look at him, Buck and Pin who had entered the room with grim expressions on their faces.
"I don't need to hear this shit and neither do others. Insulting each other isn't going to get anywhere" Switchs voice was back to normal now but held authority. One hour ago...
I found him in the kitchen with the men. They looked at me when I walked in but I kept my gaze on him.
"I need you to come with me" I breathed out wringing my hands together in front of me. I observed the knowing looks that took over all the men's faces, they knew what was coming. He slowly stood up and followed me out of the room. I walked swiftly towards the back of the compound where I knew Pin and Fiachra were playing outside. Stopping at the door I turned to face him.
"You need to remain calm OK? Whatever you're feeling we'll leave and talk it out but don't you dare scare him" My voice held firm authority and he blinked at me in shock and caution. He nodded briefly a second later.
Taking a deep breath I turned , opened the door and stepped through. I felt his presence beside me but didn't look over. Instead I watched the back of my sons head as he sat on the floor in the grass playing with some toy trucks. Taking another deep breath I called out his name.
Pin looked up and his entire face became cautious a split second before Fiachra spun around and look at me. A lot happened at once.
Firstly I heard Pin mutter Cuts name as a warning, then I felt my heart pumping within me so loudly that I was sure everyone else could hear it too and lastly I felt Cut lean towards me to question me about what his significance here was.
And then Fiachra smiled and everyone froze.
My little boys beautiful face broke out in his unmistakably identical smile to his father's. Coupled with his eyes you would have to be blind to not see the uncanning resemblance.
Cut didn't have time to process this before Fiachra was upon us. He stopped a step before me and gaze up at us giving me his full attention.
"Mommy guess what? Pin and Buck are going to let me ride on their bikes if you say it's okay! I asked and asked and asked and they said they'll talk to you" he grinned up at me only to turn his head swiftly towards Cut who let out a growl of anger at the mention of Pin and Buck being with Fiachra. Wrapping an arm around my boy I brought him closer to me just as Pin came to stand beside Cut.
"Who are you?" I knew that tone of voice. That was Fiachras 'protecting his mom' voice.
"Kid come inside with me and give these two are few minutes okay?" Pin ushered him inside having sensed the aura coming from Cut. No sooner than when they left did I get dragged back inside, down a hall, up a stairs and into a room I can only think is Cuts bedroom here.
That's when the screaming began. Back and forth between us as if it was a competition to see who could get the worst comment in. He was winning by far."He's mine and I want him" having taken a deep breath after Switch interrupted us Cut led again with that line.
"OK you can get to know him but it needs to be slow. Step by step day by day" I said back.
"I can't believe this shit." He shook his head at me in disgust. "How could you?" He mumbled and I felt the men get uncomfortable before exiting the room quietly. But not before they heard my harsh bitter humourless laugh.
"How could I? How could fucking you?" I snapped back and his face hardened dangerously.
"What's that suppose to mean?" His voice was a warning. I scoffed.
" we're not doing this. There's nothing for us to talk about. All that's between us is Fiachra and that's it so keep your focus on him and not us" I went to leave the room but not before I heard his heartbreaking reply.
"Was there ever really an 'us'?"From my memory there was an us that shouldn't have ended but judging from the months that followed that night and indeed the years, it would appear that maybe I was wrong. Maybe my feelings were very one sided in that section of my life.
