Hospital bed number 4.

There's a lot in this world that tests the stability of a friendship, there's also a lot in this world that causes it to grow so strong nothing could break it.
Me and Millie we had the unbreakable type of friendship. The one that when people asked who that person was to you, you didn't say "oh my best friend" because it wasn't enough. That friendship that is undescribable because there is so much history and meaning to it. Yeah, that was mine and Millie's friendship since day one.
"Babygirl, look at me" I whispered from my chair beside her bed. Her gaze had been fixed out the window since I arrived two hours ago. The nurses told me she hadn't spoken a lick since she had woken up a week and a half ago.
She was battered almost to the point of no repair. Three broken ribs, a fractured ulna and black and blue all over, she looked like something out of a horror movie. In surgery three weeks ago when she had been rushed in they stopped the internal bleeding and there seemed to be no more incidences of it.
"Please talk to me" My voice broke in the middle. Silence engulfed us.
"I'm it's favourite toy" her voice was nothing above a hoarse whisper. She still stared out the window.
"What's favourite toy?" I asked back feeling sick for her. Blinking several times she turned my way. Looking at me through one black eye and one swollen and bloodshot she took a deep breath.
"Tragedy" she whispered as tears filled her eyes, mine filled wih hers.
" We'll get help. Like last time ok? We will get someone to talk to you and help you through" I whispered fiercely to her. She tried to laugh but the pain of it slashed through her face.
"Don't you worry, I'm good right now being beat to shit. This is a walk in the park in comparison to...before" she ended on a hush so low it was hardly heard. But I knew what she was talking about.
I had been there that night when it happened and spent time with her in the hospital for the months that followed.
"We will get in contact with the services again, Mill just for a chat" I said but she was shaking her head before I could finish.
"It's in the past. I won't go back there. I did the talking and the counselling about being raped then okay? I dealt with it and I don't want to think about that again! Jonathan beat me Aine, that's all I promise you" she stared into my eyes.
" I know sweetie I know. But him hurting you might bring back up what the Jacks-" I tried to reason but she wasn't having it.
"No " she snapped in fear. I held firm on her hand.
"Okay, Babygirl, okay." I kissed her forehead. "I've got Fiach, you get you back together okay? We'll start there". "Love you" she whispered.
"Yeah yeah I'm all marshmallows and butterflies about you too" I smiled shakily at her and the tiniest grin appeared on her battered face before she turned back to the window and stared silently out it for what seemed like hours before she spoke again.
"Hell is empty and all the devils are here" Millie's chilling words by Shakespeare swept through the room and as much as I'd like to argue with her, I couldn't, because Millie McCarthy has become too friendly with tragedy on too many occasions in her life.
