Looking back on it I knew I had handled the situation wrong. Realistically I shouldn't have reacted at all or at the very least I should have kept my cool.
However faced with the love of my life's new woman I guess I can say I reacted the way any person would faced with an awkward situation.
I descended into hysterical laughter and kept up a random stream of words along the lines of " wow, this is great. Great! That's so..his woman.... wow lovely..." over and over in various ways before I dropped the dishcloth on the counter in the kitchen and exited the room without another word. I could feel every set of eyes on me as I grabbed my purse and rang a taxi from my room, calling out for Fiachra. We had made it to the main door before Cuts voice called out behind me.
"Where are you going Millie?" I squeezed my eyes shut, keeping my back to him. I had always loved the sound of his voice when he said my name, the deep rumbled of it. But now all I could hear was him rumbling Jessicas name in the same manner and that cut so deep I thought I might bleed to death.
I spun around with a huge smile on my face.
"Me and Fiachra are going looking at apartments" I watched the effect of my words on him knowing he understood what that meant.
"I'll come with" he said gently, blatantly ignoring Jessicas protests. But her words weren't needed.
"No no we're good. Some time with my boy would be nice" I said before turning and getting both me and Fiachra into the taxi that was idling there.

That had been a week ago. A week I spent hiding in my room when Cut came by our new place to pick up Fiachra. Each and every time I would shout goodbye to him but would never exit the room. A week I kept busy by focusing on work and constantly cleaning my two bedroomed apartment to the point that everything shone. A week I hadn't seen Cut.
Every so often I would hear him ask Fiachra where I was when he was picking him up and almost every time Fiachra would cover me without hesitation. I knew he understood a lot in the situation that most would have overlooked.
The front door opened taking me from my thoughts. "Hey Mom!"
I heard the door shut quietly before I called out to Fiachra from where I was in my bedroom,
"Hey Fiach, I'm back here. Dinners almost ready okay? So go wash up. How was school and your Dad?".
"I'm good" a deep voice said behind me. Spinning around I stared in shock at Cut standing in my door frame.
"What are you...where Fiachra? " I spluttered. He slowly took a few steps into my room.
"He's in his room, his doors closed." He answered.
"OK so why are you in here?" I questioned watching his every move.
"Want to know why you're avoiding me Millie." He stared straight into my eyes as he came to a stop right in front of me.
"I'm not" I automatically replied. He pierced his lips before leaning further into me.
"Why Millie?" He asked again.
"Look all we share is a kid, I don't understand why we have to be around each other" I replied.
"I don't know maybe because my sons been picking up on the fact that his mother won't even come into the same room as me?" He said sarcastically while giving me a pointed look.
"OK next time I'll be in the room when you get here." I replied as if it was no big deal.
"You have no right to be treating me like this . I've done nothing wrong here" he said and I frowned in response.
"What do you mean?" I questioned.
"Jess" was his one word response before I felt myself freeze.
"Okay you can go now" I said moving towards the door hastily. He grabbed my arm and stopped my escape.
"She'll be in my life and therefore in your son's and maybe even yours so you've got to get over whatever the hell is in your head" he snapped angrily. I scoffed bitterly.
"Nothings going on in my head. Just because I don't stand and wait for you to arrive everyday doesn't mean I'm messed up in my head. We have nothing between us remember so maybe you should get whatever is in your head out of it because I'm crystal clear" I snapped back at him. He backed me into the wall beside the door before leaning bodily into me.
"I have a mind to prove you wrong" he rumbled at me.
"You could try but you'll be disappointed" I fired back. He smiled rudely at me.
"Babe don't pretend.. we both know that if I touched you right now you'd be on your knees faster than-" I dont even remember making the decision. One second I was staring up into his eyes that lit with anger and frustration and the next a loud cracking sound went through the room as Cuts head shot to the side from the slap I had just inflicted on it. I gasped in shock as my actions registered in my head.
Slowly Cut turned his head to look at me for a split second before his lips came crashing down onto mine. There was no way to stop it. We were beyond anything be feeling what was building between us. It was a battle between us. A challenge we were both set on winning, although I'm unsure what the prize would have been if someone did win. My hands wove their way into his hair as his twisted and gripped at mine, keeping my head in position for him. Our tongues clashed and fought for domination as he pressed me further back into the wall until I was stuck between him and the wall, knee to chest.
Fiachras door opening and his toddling feet was what broke the spell. Reality set in and I pushed Cut away from me.
"Mommy is dinner done yet?" His voice came from the kitchen and without sparing Cut a glance I practically ran toward the kitchen.
"Yeah baby sit down, I've got it now" I was frazzled as I tried desperately to gather my thoughts.
"Hey Bud I'm heading off okay? I have business to take care of so I won't see you for a few days alright? But I'll give you a call when I'm coming back" Cuts voice came from the doorway but I refused to turn and look. I was so confused by the incident in the bedroom I didn't hear Fiachras response, or anything else for that matter, until the front door slammed closed.
Eight years. Eight years since I've been near Cut Stoker and tonight in a heated moment of anger I had his lips on mine. Suddenly in those minutes I was catapulted back into a past that was now too difficult to revisit.
