Eight years ago...
"Just drop the car in to be fixed Mil! If you do it now I'll have the car back by tomorrow at the latest" Aine huffed down the phone at me. " I can't get away from work and it needs to be working if I'm going to make it up West this weekend"
"But.. he works there!" It was the only reason I was stalling. It had been a week since my one night with the biker Cut and a week I hadn't seen or heard from him. Granted that was my own doing seen as I snuck from his compound in the early hours of the morning without waking him and letting him know I was leaving. It wasnt like he would care anyways, likely he was happy with the fact that he was saved the hassle of getting rid of me. That didn't mean I wanted to see him now though.
"Just please! He probably won't even be there. In and out in under five minutes hun" she tried to reason with me.
"The things I do for you!" I scoffed down the phone again her.
"Love you" she said down the phone before hanging up.
"Just sit down, Babe, and I'll see if it needs to be kept or if I can do it now" The biker mechanic guy said to me while checking out the car. I shuffled anxiously from foot to foot, glancing around the place.
"No no honesty I'll just-"
"Sit down" he said, not rudely just final.
Slowly I shuffled my way over to a seat at the open garage doors. Staring around the place I took in the machines and tools that lay along different shelves and presses within the room. Time that seemed like forever but was only a matter of minutes passed before the biker made his way over to me.
"I'll have to keep it for the night but if you come back around three tomorrow I'll have it sorted for you" he said.
"Perfect, thank you.."
"Hound" he said smiling cockily at me.
"Thank you...Hound" I said trying out his name.
"and what's your name Babe? " He asked and I opened my mouth to answer.
"Millie. "
I spun around to come face to face wih Cut, who had said my name before I got the chance. He stared down at me looking completely blank.
Oh fuck.
"What's was that?" He asked me and although I didn't turn I felt Hound retreat behind me, leaving me and Cut alone.
"Oh..I'm just.. dropping off my friends car to get checked. She-"I blubbered.
"No Babe. What was that the other night?" He was staring hard into my eyes now, not backing down.
"I..."
"You what?" Shit. He was not letting go.
"Cut... I'm not.. I mean..." looking away from him I blurted it out ," I'm not that girl".
I felt him step closer to me, there wasn't a breath of air between the two of us.
"What girl?"
"That girl! I don't do that, I mean, I did with you and it was.. that's not important but I'm not that girl and I panicked when I woke up and you were all...chest and.... not what I mean... what's it to you anyways?" Blank faced he stared at me before slowly breaking into a beautiful barely there smirk.
"C'mon" without waiting he turned and strolled out of the shed.
Practically running I caught up to him beside a bike. His Harley.
"Get on" he said as he swung his leg over and sat back.
"Hell no" I admonished. He stopped moving and looked at me before reaching over, picking me up and placing me behind him on it.
"Wait what! Where are we going?" I practically yelled.
"The beach".
"So...what do you think?" Cut asked from where we sat.
"It's really...beautiful but um..." I looked back at the water in front of us.
"Yeah?" He asked.
"Well.. I mean... it's a lake" I pointed out the obvious. We had rode up a dirt road through a forest off the main highway outside of town. Once we had parked we walked for about ten minutes through the trees to come out into a valley. A lake took up most of the land, blue glistening water that shone in the sun and reminded me of a fairytale. We sat along the edge of the water.
He broke laughing at me. I looked over at him to see watching the water.
"When I was young me, mom and my baby brother didn't have all that much. It never mattered but I remember my brother dreamed big and often. Once he begged Mom to bring us to the beach, he was five and we'd never left town before. God he cried and begged for hours" he chuckled at the memory. Laying back I curled onto my side and watched him speak.
"Finally she relented and we trekked up here. He'd never seen a beach before so he didn't know the difference. Best day of his life that day was" he smiled softly.
"Once every two weeks I brought him up here for years, taught him how to swim. It was a lake to anyone else but it was always our beach" coming out of his moment he cleared his throat.
"So anyways, here's the beach."
Glancing around once again I saw it in a new light, a light that showed how something so ordinary could be so important. Sitting up I came face to face with Cut.
"I like your beach, Cut" I whispered to him. Leaning in slowly he kissed me.
He kissed me in a way that was both gentle and claiming at the same time. A kiss that spoke a million words and held a thousand emotions. A kiss I could never forget even if I tried and at that moment I never wanted to. Little did I know that within the next couple of months, things would play out that made me wish I had never had Luke 'Cut' Stoker lips against mine.
