Hope (L x Reader)

Lawliet

"What is it?" I asked worriedly.
"I must warn you...he's changed."
I nodded and bowed.
"Thank you." And I knocked on L's door.

He wasn't aware that I was going to visit because the door was locked.
"What do you want?" I heard a cold voice that once belonged to L.
"It's me...(Y/n)." I said. I heard slow movement and the door slowly opened.
"Oh..hey."

"M-may I come in?" He hesitated as
we stared at each other. He slowly opened the door all the way.

As I stepped in I felt the air turn colder. It was darker than before and it didn't welcome me. The room was covered in papers and I could barely walk through. I tried to look around but there were no lights on.

He shut the door and quickly locked it. He hunched over and walked over to me.
"What do you want?" He said coldly as I bit my lip.

I'm not dreaming.

"W-what do I want?" I choked.
"Yeah." He said.

I checked little digits that danced above his head. His lifespan hadn't changed.
"I wanted to make sure you're ok and..." I broke off.

"Well everything's fine as you can see."
Tears filled my eyes but quickly vanished. "Do you still have the..."
He sighed and pulled out the heart piece from his pocket. "Yeah I do." It gave me hope.
We stared at each other.
"You've changed..." I whispered.
He gave me a cold stare and glared.

"Does it matter? If you were my friend then this wouldn't change anything."
This time tears filled my eyes and fell down my face.

"I am your friend." I whimpered.
"Then why are you questioning how I behave?" I didn't answer and my hands started trembling. I ran up to him and I hugged him.
"I missed you L. I don't want our friendship to end."
No emotion.

He sighed and walked to the door as I was still clinging to him. He opened it and snarled at me.

"If you cared about our friendship then you would of stayed. Maybe I wouldn't be this way. It's your fault (Y/n)!
I don't need you anymore." He threw his heart piece at the wall and slapped my face. Then pushed me out of the room. I fell to the ground.
He slammed the door and I went to my knees.
I reached for the handle with my shaking hand but fell back and tears streamed down my face.

I stood up and broke into a run.

I don't need anyone.
I'll show you...Lawliet.

I had used my arm to cover my teary face and Watari tried to grab me.
"(Y/n) are you ok!" I stopped crying.
"It doesn't matter if I'm ok!"
I snarled at him.

Why was I acting like this?

I dashed out the door and ran to the woods. I had climbed a tree and whispered the painful words to myself that pierced my heart.

"I messed up everything...
I'm a monster...
It's all my fault..."

I sobbed and started to shake. Beyond had been chasing me and I heard him climb the tree and he sat next to me with some tissues.

"I saw what happened (Y/n)."
I hugged him and sobbed on his shoulder while he stroked my hair.
"Try to calm down..." I held onto him tighter and whispered.
"He threw it away." Beyonds eyes widened. "He threw what away?"
"The locket that I gave him years ago."
Beyond hugged me back and let me cry.

L's POV

I quickly retrieved the locket.
I dropped to my knees and started to cry.
"It's all my fault." I said.
I stopped crying and trudged my empty, lifeless body to the computer.

People will use her. Kidnap her, torture her. Just to get to me.
I can't let that happen.

There was a knock on the door.
"Lawliet what have you done to her?"
I hadn't responded.
"Lawliet?" I remained silent.
Watari walked away and I quickly wiped away the tears on my face.

I have to sacrifice myself so she doesn't hurt as much as I did. She'll get over me like everyone else did...
