Soichero grabbed my arm and tugged me out of the shop while Mrs.Cradey stayed behind, slightly weary.

I gaped at him as I noticed his dramatic change.
His hair was grayer and his face sagged of tiredness. His firm voice displayed weakness and he seemed depressed.
"What's wrong?" I asked.

He gaped at my own change as well.

"What happened to your eyes?!"

It most likely had something to do with me being part shinigami... To be truthful, I hadn't actually known.
"Not important. Why did you come here?" He started to walk and I followed.

"There's a new killer going around by the name of Kira. You follow?" I nodded. "I've heard of him. Get to the point."

We started to walked faster.
"There's a man named L working on this case. You've probably heard of him."

L...I know that name from somewhere...

"And?" I asked impatiently.
"He's asked us to help him with this case."
"That's great." I said briskly.
"Quick question before I ask you something else..."

"What is it?" We stopped walking and turned into an alleyway.
"Didn't you take detective courses at the collage not far from here? What happened?" My heart jumped a little.
"I don't recall doing that."

He stared at me.
"You sure? What's your name again?"
"My name is (Y/n)."
"Nevermind...back to L. He's asked us to help him and he may make an exception if I'd like to bring someone in the case."

"Wow...that's great!" I thought I heard a low chuckle from him.
"You don't realize what I'm saying."
I shook my head. "What?"
"I'd like you to help us solve the case."
I nearly gasped. "I'd love to!"

He gave me a yellow folder and I opened it.
"I need you to put all your personal information that's listed in there for L to determine if he shall let you in."

"May you tell me more about L?"

"He's the smartest man in the world who has solved countless crimes. Nobody except his friend Watari knows his true name or face. He hides in the shadows...some say that he's not even human. They claim he's a government... now, we're going to meet him."

I took a deep breathe. "Amazing..."
He nodded. "Fill out the files by tomorrow and I'll pick them up from you."
I walked back to the bakery explaining everything to Mrs.Cradey.

After work I bolted home to read what was in the folder. It was just basic information on where I lived and my jobs etc. Strangely it asked me if I played any instruments. I hadn't played the violin in awhile but I still wrote it down until something harshly poked my neck.

"Ouch!" I said. I quickly took off my necklace.

My necklace...

I hadn't realized I was wearing it. It wasn't complete. The other half was somewhere else.

What happened to the other half?

I shook my head, ignored it and went strait to bed. The following morning I trudged myself to work after making myself coffee and getting ready for the day. I walked to work to find Soichero waiting for me at the door.

I gave him the folder containing my information and he quickly walked away. As I walked in Mrs.Cradey told me to take the day off. I thanked her and walked off. I had sprinted home and the moment I slammed the door my phone had rung.

(And by this time I've managed to buy a real house)
I quickly answered the unknown number. "Who is this?" I asked in a sharp tone.
The reply wasn't what I suspected.
"I am L." I stopped moving or speaking.

"Just to make sure I can trust you I need you to come to the hotel a few blocks down from where you live and go to room 100."
"Now?" I asked.
"Now." He said.

His voice was cold and solid. I quickly hung up and bolted out the door.

Time skip

I stood at the door to the hotel room and knocked. I heard the cold voice echo through my ears.
"Come in. The doors open."
I slowly opened the door and crept in.

There was a man sitting down on a chair yet I couldn't see his face. He stood up in a weird hunched format.
I stood there rooted to the spot as I shut the door. He turned around.

He was white as a ghost and had thick black hair that nearly fell over his eyes. He had bags over his eyes and he was wearing baggy jeans too. He drew closer to me and I immediately put my hand on the door handle.

"As you know I am L. Do you know why I called you here alone?"
His voice made me shiver.

I know this man...
I looked at his name that danced above his head.

L...Lawliet...Lawliet...I know that name!

I shook my head. "No." I said quietly. I avoided eye contact in fear he would question me about my eyes.

"Look at me when I'm talking to you."

He was standing right in front of me.
I continued to look down.
"If you can't follow simple orders you-"
I cut him off.

"You may be L but I won't be forced to do anything I'm uncomfortable with. I don't care who you are. You won't force me to do anything." I said sharply.

"Being assertive? Good to see a real personality for once." He sighed and sat down on a couch with his knees pulled up to his chest.

"Before you'll help me with this case I need to ask you a few questions. So please come sit."
I took a deep breathe and slowly walked over to the couch shaking.

I sat down and he pulled up a computer.

L...Lawliet...
I know him...why can't I remember?
