I remember crying that night, I was hurt that he left after what happened between us. I walked home with tear stains.
I already gave my gift to Zach and it was just a stuffed toy of his favorite T.V show.
I couldn't even face Clark.
I was in Zach's workplace, and every time I look for Clark, he was nowhere in sight. And all I could think was that he was hiding from me.
"Zach," I quietly said.
"Yes, Jade?" He beamed.
"Something happened between Clark and I..."
Zach seemed to be oblivious to what I was feeling. "What? Did you guys kissed?"
I nodded unhappily and looked down on the floor, "Yes..."
"What's wrong? Aren't you supposed to be happy?"
I looked at him with my reddish eyes, I was exhausted and crying has left me drained, "He said he was sorry."
"What?" He stared at me in surprised.
"We kissed then he said he's sorry. Then he left me." The memory of him leaving pained me. Then I felt my eyes becoming warm once again. "He just left me. Alone."
I thought there was something in the kiss, I felt a spark, he kissed me harder, he held on to me as if he didn't want to let go. Why?
Zach's smile has turned into a frown, "I'll talk to Clark." He muttered and started to walk away.
I grabbed his wrist before he could, "Leave it be."
"Jade, he's hurting you. He's playing with your feelings. And it's Christmas! This is supposed to be all fun and great and happy, not like that." He pointed to my face.
I pursed my lips, "I don't want to face him yet." I mumbled, then I glanced down on the gift that I was holding, it was the gift that I would give to Clark. "Zach, can you do me a favor?"
"What now?"
"Can you give this to him?" I showed him the wrapped gift.
"Jade—"
"Please. Zach. If you give this to him, please tell him that... I painted it gold because he's friendly, loving, compassionate and a lot more positive things—"
"Jade, just—"
"—Tell him that... I gave him a Phoenix sculpture because he's regarded as uniquely remarkable. That's what the Phoenix means." I was breathing slowly but deeply. I didn't want to cry, especially in front of many happy people in the building. But I can't help it, I just wanted to go home. Then again I have to wait for night time to give Superman's gift.
I continued as he didn't speak, "Please, Zach. This is all I ask of you." Every time I spoke, it was soft and quiet. That was how much I was hurting.
"Alright," he quietly said. He gave me a long stare, observing my face. Then he pulled me into a tight hug.
I closed my eyes at the interaction and wrapped my arms around him slowly.
He gradually parted and looked at me one more time, "I'll look for Clark and say that to him." He grabbed the gift from me gingerly.
"Thank you," I whispered.
