My dog barked loudly every time we come across other animals. I took him out for a walk near my apartment without a leash. He was trained enough to not roam around and stay by my side unless I told him so.
We went to the nearest park, sitting on a bench Indian-style with a book held in my hand. There was nothing else to do in my apartment, I would clean but it was too early for that, I wanted to relax first and work has been exhausting lately. My pet was across of me playing with other people's animals.
It wasn't sunny, I didn't have to hide underneath the leaves of a tree from the sun that was pouring on the planet, besides, it was bright and cloudy. The weather was just perfect.
I flipped to the next page, rubbing my forefinger and thumb to prevent turning over two pages. The book was not that interesting, I got it from a bookstore where a shelf was full of books that were wrapped in plain brown paper, with a big icon on top of the wood saying 'Don't judge a book by its cover'. It was not that bad but not the type of book that I will reread it.
I took a sip of my ice tea on my other hand and I read the text slowly.
'But just because you love someone doesn't mean it's going to work out. In fact, it doesn't mean that at all. All it means is that you might have a chance. And honestly, a chance doesn't mean that much. —'
I was interrupted by a sudden growl from the dogs, I looked up and saw mine about to launch over to another. His teeth was seen bare, glaring murderously to a Doberman whose leash was being pulled to stop by its owner. Scared to see their pet fight one.
"Hey, Shay! Get back here!" I yelled over to my pet who stopped growling abruptly, I placed down my drink and patted to the empty space beside me, motioning to sit or stay by my side. He always like to snarl for no reason, it was annoying. Sometimes even if there was a small insect, he will get mad and tried to eat it.
The dog ran and jumped to the bench, laying his head down on my lap. Closing his eyes as if nothing happened at all.
I glanced over to the person, whose face was relief in the situation, "Sorry about that!"
"It's fine, thank you!" She walked away, dragging her pet on the process who kept on looking towards Shay. I didn't even know the reason for their fighting. If there was one.
"I didn't know your dog is a Rottweiler."
I jumped at the sudden voice behind me. I turned my head around to look and saw that it was Clark, my eyebrows quirked, "Clark! What are you doing here?" I questioned. I was not expecting anyone to see today. Definitely not a co-worker of mine that I would bump this afternoon.
He walked around and sat next to my other empty side. I placed the book mark on the open page and closed it. Fixing my things to make Clark have more spaces to sit.
"I was walking on the sidewalk when I heard your voice, so I decided to come by and see you."
I smiled, "That's nice of you, but I was just enjoying the breeze here and took my dog out for some air." I pet Shay's head who became tense, he was staring at Clark intently. He doesn't like anyone being near to his owner especially when he didn't know them.
Clark raised his hand slowly to pet Shay who was starting to growl once again, I told him before he could, "I don't think you should pet him, he's not really friendly with strangers."
He chuckled, "How am I going to be friends with him then?"
"I don't know. He —" my eyes widened as I saw him extended his arm, I didn't want him to injure himself, it's not that I didn't train Shay in a bad behavior, it was him that actually has issues. But I love him nonetheless. I grabbed Clark's wrist in caution.
