A Friend of A Friend

I sat on my chair typing and editing the ones they told me to change. Edit the cover page, edit the fonts, edit the pictures, a lot more that I can't remember.

Working in Daily Planet, not as a reporter but as a Multimedia Artist. Having my very own office was honorable but it was a small one, on the same floor level as the famous reporter; Lois Lane.

My office has been a bit messy, including my desktop table, containing all of my artworks and covers. Still presentable, keeping everything organized as possible was quite hard for an artist as myself.

Tea stains beside my keyboard from the previous cup, some crumpled papers piled up next to it and sharpened and blunted pencils were scattered.

I sighed irritably at the view on my desk, having no time to clean it all up. If I had my own personal assistant, I'll make her my maid and tell her to clean all of my mess in the workplace.

The room was just beside my boss's office, with big windows that I can look around, preventing the loud noise from coming in. A bit better that way, it helps me concentrate. I'm not the type of person who can do it with loud noises around me, except, it just gets lonely.

It was boring as hell, out there you could talk to anyone. It could be beside you, behind you or in front of you.

Unless if you don't know how to start a conversation with strangers by yourself and have a resting bitch face, it doesn't help much. I made a fool out of myself when I did, or probably scared the others when they thought I was pissed at them when I looked at their directions.

I was lucky that I have someone close, at least I get to have lunch with them and tea for myself. Coffee makes my stomach churn for no reason even if I took a small sip.

Inside the quiet room, all I can do was watch or glance around me, looking at my co-workers chat or work on their desks.

Looking at the clock, it was still early, I rubbed my face with one hand. Time sure do run so slow when you're working. Especially when there was nothing interesting to do.

I focused on my monitor, finishing the last touch up on the very last page. Yearning to complete it up early so I can do the other projects that I've been told to do so. I took a deep breath and let it out of my mouth.

Am I the only one who does this? No. I was told that I just do it much better and they were counting on me.

Mostly, all of the articles recently were about Superman. How he saved the world from General Zod weeks ago, how he saved the citizens of Metropolis and the crimes he stopped that was happening around us.

A knock came through the glass door in the middle of silence, I looked up and saw Zach, my close associate. Working on the same floor level as me.

His black hair was combed neatly and his eyes were like the color of a healthy leaf, it was bright. Someone always notices those eyes, all I had was brown.

I met him when I was getting my favorite drink, most don't talk and just avoided crossing their paths on my way because of my neutral face. It also has perks, though, shitty people that some wants to avoid won't talk to me so that's a bonus since I don't want to deal with them also.

When he noticed me looked up from my screen, he opened the door and entered, shuffling his way inside with his hands in his pockets.

"Hey, Jade," he greeted, "it's lunch time and I have someone who I want you to meet. He just started working a few weeks ago."

A new worker that I haven't heard of, perhaps gossips in this building was slow or maybe I've been staying in my office for too long that I've been missing out a lot.

I probably saw him, even though working here for a long time does not mean all of your co-workers would become familiar to you. I was not a social person.

There was this one guy I noticed, he was cute with his glasses but never talked to him. I can only see him from afar.

I looked at my clock once again and saw the hands was pointed at twelve, it was noon. But I really want to finish the project.

I smiled, "Alright, you go ahead, this will be done in a few minutes. I'll just find you on our usual spot." He nodded and left my office.

I worked faster, typing on the keyboard furiously without looking and saved the output by pressing enter. I stood up, my back legs hitting the chair, making it slide backwards. I brought my money, putting it inside my pocket.

Walking out of my door, finally hearing the loud noise of chattering and the taps on the keyboard, also the sound of the printer and the sound of the papers when it bends.

I strolled down the hallway through the elevator and pressed the number where the cafeteria was.

As the door opened, I walked to our usual spot, I finally saw Zach and the guy he wanted me to meet with their food on the table. Laughing at whatever they were talking about.

I didn't see the person completely, seeing that his back was facing me.

When I was near, Zach stopped laughing as he saw me when he looked up.

"They were selling your favorite food so I already bought you some before they sold out. Money's on me." He grinned and pushed the food towards the place where I would take my seat, the food that I didn't even notice.

When he started speaking, the guy looked at me with his beautiful blue eyes. It was the guy that I noticed and said he was cute.

He was definitely handsome up close with his black hair and glasses.

I took my seat between them and said my thanks to Zach, grabbing the food closer.

"This is the person I want you to meet. He's really nice. We met a few days ago and invited him to lunch."

"And you didn't even think of telling me that you have a new friend." I raised a brow towards him and smirked. I looked back to the new guy, fixing my long black hair as some strands fell, covering my eyes. I finally introduced myself, "I'm Lauren Jade Starly." I smiled, lifting my right hand in front of him to shake, "And you are?"

He smiled back at me and took my hand in a firm grip. As our hands touched, my heart started beating fast and my eyes dilated.

        "My name is Clark Kent."
