TOM KAULITZ

A couple of hours after Bonnie's water broke, Bonnie, Bill, Kathryn and I were all anxiously waiting in the Maternity suite. I sat seated next to Bonnie who was lying in the extra-large bed, covered by blankets and wearing a hospital gown.

Cedar Sinai has something called "The Deluxe Maternity Suites". I particularly chose this hospital because they offer special accommodations to high profile clients and celebrities. The nurses, doctors and staff were beyond professional, equipped, and prepared when it came to handling things; especially keeping information private from the public. To reserve this suite, I had to pay four thousand dollars a night.

Nothing was too expensive if it secured the safety of Bonnie and Sophie.

Each suite provided extra comforts, additional overnight lodgings for Bill, and other supplementary services during our first days of bonding with Sophie. The room was humongous. In the middle of the birthing room sat a comfortable birthing bed decorated with two over-sized pillows, blankets and an extra-long body pillow. The room was painted in soft neutral colors and recessed lighting. The additional room for Bill, included a sofa, dining area fit for four and a private bathroom. It was all very 'lavish'.

It was great to see what money could buy you. The suites had an in-room refrigerator stocked with complimentary chilled juices and bottled water as well as a welcome basket. Our nurse told us that we would receive three meals per day from deluxe food services, during our 4-day stay at the hospital, with vegetarian and vegan options available. Even though he wanted us to have our privacy, I pressured Bill into staying at least two nights with us and he agreed. He did promise to visit both days we would still be at the hospital.

We met our amazing nursing staff that we would spend the next four days with, reviewed our birthing plan, and met with our doctor who would be delivering the baby.

"I hope you plan on having a workout." I joked to Doctor Belford. "We are expecting an 8-pounds-plus baby girl."

He laughed and our nurse began hooking Bonnie to all sorts of monitors and needles. After Bonnie was all plugged in, she started writing in our daughter's journal about what we were doing and we both laughed at Bill playing and discovering everything in the state-of-the-art room.

While being monitored the nurse came rushing in to see how Bonnie was handling the contractions.

"She's right there." She said with a smile. "You may feel a lot of pressure..." then her hands went a little further under the blanket between Bonnie's legs.

Bonnie groaned in response and let out a loud 'Ouch!'

The nurse armed moved a bit more then she pulled it from under the blanket.

"Well, you're 6cm dilated already," she said, removing then trashing her latex gloves.

I turned to Bonnie who laid in the bed in discomfort. "
