BONNIE
My birthday is tomorrow and for the first time in a long time I am excited about something. I'll be 28 years old in less than ten hours. Natalie is flying in and will arrive at 8 p.m. tonight. Vivian told me she would be here within the next hour or so; she flew in from Australia yesterday morning.
Bill happily agreed to watch the boys for me while the girls and I have an adult sleepover. I'm not much of a partier nor am I a big drinker, so besides dinner there are very few things to do in LA nightlife.
In the end I decided to just have them over for the weekend. I missed them both. Since Natalie and I reunion a few weeks back, things have wonderfully gone back to normal between her and I. I find myself having to remind her that I am a mother of three now and I cannot stay on the phone or skype with her for hours talking and showing off new shoes. I am very excited to see Vivian. I haven't seen her in years and I honestly miss the three of us all together.
DING DONG!
I ran to the door and opened it smiling in hopes to see Vivian's face. It was not her. The sun shined through her blazing hair and my smile went blank as we stood in silence. Both of us unable to speak the first words. In the end, it was I who spoke first.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
Simone stood with her fiery red hair pulled back into a low and unkempt ponytail, her face was expressionless as she stood in the heat. I glared at her and for a moment I almost invited her in. That thought vanished quickly. Why should I invite her into my home? She's completely cut me off from her life and while I felt I kinda-sorta deserved that right, I didn't think Bill did.
"Well are we going to both stand here in the door?" she asked then looked up to the hot sun. I raised a brow at her and slouched a bit against the frame of the open door. I would not budge.
"Look," she started. "I didn't come here to start anything. I don't want to cause any trouble. I was hoping to see the boys."
"So you just pop up here and expect that I let you in and see my sons? You haven't seen or asked about them since they were born almost eight months ago."
"I know" she nodded. "I want to see them now."
"They're not here. They are out. With their father."
Anger flew out of my mouth as I said these words. I loved Simone but how dare she show up here uninvited and demanding the same rights she gave up freely months ago.
"Alright. Then I will be off." She turned on her heel and walked back to her car that sat in the drive way. Before she could reach her door I had reached her.
