One Meeting Changes Everything (A Prince Harry Fanfiction)

I'd rather fuel a fantasy than deal with this alone

*To have a general overview: Graduation is on Monday the 25th of April. (just so I can fit Invictus in right)*

I was sipping a glass of champagne in the main hall, talking with my dad and Jade's family about the ceremony and our work plans. I had seen Harry from across the room a few times, talking to some important professors and the dean mainly. Even though he was talking to a lot of different people our eyes couldn't help but cross each other every few minutes. After some time I finally saw him approaching us.

"Hi" He said, joining our little group. They all seemed a little stunned about what exactly he was doing here. Jade simply walked up to him and extended her hand.

"Hi, nice to finally meet you" she said smiling, shaking his hand. 

Between the two of us, Jade had always been the social one. The one that knew everybody and everybody knew her. Whenever she had missed a class, she had at least 5 people ready to hand her the notes. She had always people ready to go out with her. I was that girl that she always brought along, the one you see sitting alone in the library or in a coffeeshop, reading a book. I was my happiest when I was reading. 

I figured it was my turn to introduce him to everybody.

"Dad, Michael, Cindy, this is Harry. One of my friends." I said, putting my hand lightly on his arm. 

"Ooh, but we know him. Lovely to meet you dear." Cindy immediately cooed, pulling him into a hug, which he returned smiling. 

I had never - ever- in my life heard anybody call the Prince of Wales "dear". And I was flushing red as usual. My dad hadn't taken is eyes of my face and was now the next person to introduce himself.

"Your highness. Good to meet you." My dad extended his hand, 

"Sir, Congratulations on the graduation of your daughter. Same for you two. Ooh, and Harry is fine" He said, smiling at the group. 

"Harry it is than." My dad answered. Harry then turned to my, putting his arm around my waist. 

"Can I talk to you for a minute?"

"Sure" I nodded. "Excuse us." I said to my family and smiled. We walked to the gardens at the other side of the main hall. I absolutely loved it here. I couldn't count the hours anymore I had spent here, studying in the sun when the weather was nice and drinking coffees with Jade and Felix. This had always been one of my favorite places of King's College.

"So..." he said whilst we walked next to a row of fountains. "I actually need to be going. I still have a meeting with my security detail about Invictus, but I wanted to ask you something before I went...

"Oh..." I answered back, looking up at him. We had stopped at the stem of a large oak tree.

"I was wondering what your plans were for the next few weeks. I mean, are you going to start work immediately or are you taking some time off?" His eyes were displaying some sort of insecurity that I had never seen on him before, but it made me curious where he was going with this conversation. 

"Uhm, well, I have a job interview this Wednesday and I'm going to Hawaii in 3 weeks, just as a holiday." Jade and I had planned this holiday for over a year now, but now that her sister got pregnant and her due date was right in the middle of that week,  she had had to back out. I didn't mind going alone so I didn't cancel the trip, I had just made a few minor changes. 

"Well, I was wondering if you'd accompany me to Orlando, for Invictus. I know I'll be really busy and you don't always have to come to every appearance with me. But I'd just thought it would be nice, to hang out in the evenings and spend some time together..." He was rambling so much, and my brain was going 70 mph. Was he really asking me this? 

"Wow, uhm, I'd really love to, but like give me more details, when are you leaving? What do you expect of me? Like, I don't have clothes like Kate, appropriate, not so many anyways. And what about my holiday..." I just stopped, we were both rambling. He came to stand in front of me and took my hands.

"Calm down, please, I'm not pushing you. You can always say no. Come." He let go of one of my hands and walked me over to one of the benches that were nearby, to which we sat down.

"To answer all of your questions. I'm leaving on Sunday. I'm first flying to Toronto to have a meeting with Canada's prime minister about Invictus 2017, than we're flying to Orlando for the games. And don't worry about the clothes, just bring what you like and when people will see you there, designers will probably send over a lot of great stuff for you to wear anyway." I couldn't believe he was telling me all this. But wait, did this mean we were coming out to the entire world?

"That means we're officially becoming a thing, right?" I asked him, I didn't dare to look him in the eyes, but he just squeezed my hands lightly.

"We'll probably have some explaining to do, yes. But I completely understand if you're not ready for this. I mean, the commitment you're going to be putting yourself through will be huge. The press will be all over this story. They have been over any of my previous relationships, and ever since I turned 30, they're just wondering when those kids will finally pop out." He said, smiling lightly at me and squeezing my hand, which I couldn't help but return.

"Is it bad that I just really wanna come with you? I think it'll be an amazing experience. But maybe it's better if I don't do any appearances with you yet, I mean, technically we haven't even met yet. We're not out, you know..." He nodded, understanding what I was saying. "I will be at all the events, but just as a normal girl, maybe just as a friend, who's interested in Invictus. So, no handholding Mister." I winked at him

"Well, I think I can live with that." He said, extending his hand to me "So we have a deal?"

I took his hand and shook it.

"We have a deal." I said smiling, pulling him in for a hug.
