LUKE'S POV
"What's going on in here?" I look from one to the other, but neither answers. "Michael, are you doing in the bathroom with my girlfriend?"
Michael's mouth moves, yet nothing comes out. Lucey stares at the tiled floor and does not bother to look up, even when I speak to her. "What is this?" I ask, getting anxious. I wave my hand wildly between them and the anger inside me builds when they still choose not to respond.
I try not to lose my mind, but an uneasy feelings sets in my gut as I think about the numerous possibilities for two friends being alone in the same bathroom for twenty minutes. I know Michael's reputation, and I know Lucey's vulnerability. Whatever has been happening up here, it is not okay with me. My blood begins to boil.
"Is no one going to fucking answer me?" I say, clenching my fists. I am surprised at the coolness of my tone.
"It's nothing, Luke," Mike finally submits. "Just Aspirin."
My nostrils flare. "Asprin, really? I guess that makes sense. So you were just having trouble finding it then?"
He nods.
"Could that be it right there? The only thing sitting on the counter?"
Michael's eyes widen but he tries to play it off. "Sorry. Jesus, I don't know where you keep all your pills here, Hemmings."
"Are you shitting me right now? You honestly think I'm going to believe that?!" I shut the door behind me to keep the others from hearing. The last thing I need is those other two idiots showing up.
"Bro, I swear. You know I wouldn't do that!" Michael takes a step back and raises his hands in defense.
Lucey suddenly looks up, a strange look in her eyes. "You know nothing happened, Luke. Calm down."
Part of me wants to shout again, to tell her that I know better after what happened with Calum, but I decide to keep my cool. Deep down, I know she isn't lying. She is better than that.
"Get out." I hiss, glaring at Michael.
"Luke.." he starts.
"I believe you, okay? Just get out! I want to talk to Lucey alone."
He looks nervous, glancing back at Lucey as he walks away, but he leaves the room without putting up a fight. Thank God.
When I turn to face Lucey, she is sitting on the toilet with her arms crossed. "I can't believe you just did that," she whispers, clearly embarrassed. She's right, as always.
"I know. That was a mistake. I just.. God! I get so protective. The thought of losing you again seriously makes me insane. I didn't mean to be accusing."
She sighs and I begin to feel bad. "I know, Lucas. Just promise me this won't happen again. I'm not sure I can bear it. I just want things to be normal."
I walk over to her and gently take her hand, pulling her to her feet. She looks up at me, and I wrap my arms around her. "I'm sorry, baby." I tip her chin up so she is forced to look into my eyes. "Do you want to go to bed?"
"But what about the boys?" she questions, though I can see that she is already tired.
"I'm sure they'll be alright," I chuckle. "Ashton was asleep in Calum's lap when I got up."
She cracks a smile, and I feel like I'm falling in love with her all over again. What did I do to deserve such an angel?
"Well, come on then. I'm exhausted," she states as she grabs my hand and drags me down the hallway.
She rushes into the bedroom and shuts the door behind us, seeming awfully eager to get into her pajamas. I lean casually against the wall and try to take every detail of her in. Her shirt slides over her head, revealing her pale and flat stomach and the tempting expanse of her chest as her hair flows over her shoulders. I don't even see the scars anymore; to me she is perfect. She turns her back to me as she removes her bra and puts on one of my t-shirts, still so shy even though I've seen it all before. When she is fully dressed, she climbs into the bed and buries herself in the sheets. It is only then that I realize I'm staring and decide to join her.
"Aren't you going to change?" she asks quizzically, scanning my black skinny jeans and Vans.
I give a cocky smirk, pulling my lip ring through my teeth as I chew my lip in an attempt to be seductive. "I figured maybe I'd just get undressed along the way." Okay, yeah, now I'm horny.
She frowns and blinks hard. She seems upset by this. "What are you implying, Lucas?"
"I just thought.. I mean, it's been a while since we've.." I rub the back of my neck and trail off. What was I thinking? Of course she doesn't want to mess around after the stunt I just pulled in the bathroom. Also considering the fact that our three best friends are cuddling in the living room below us.
She laughs though, and I think I may be in the clear. I strip off my pants and long-sleeved shirt, leaving me only in my boxers before sliding in next to her. I plant a soft kiss on her forehead and trail down to her lips. So beautiful. When my lips reach her neck and begin playfully sucking, however, I feel a hand on my chest.
"Luke..."
"What's wrong?" I ask innocently as I run my fingertips across her bare stomach under the hem of her shirt.
"I just don't think we should.. I'm not really feeling it right now," she mutters.
"Lucey, are you okay? You've been acting kind of strange today." What is her deal all of a sudden?
"Nothing is wrong, Luke. I just don't want to have sex. Why is that such a big deal to you?" I can feel her skin heating up.
"It's not a big deal at all! I just want to be sure it's nothing I did." I'm confused.
"You have no idea," she mumbles, barely loud enough for me to hear.
"What's that supposed to mean, Luce? Just be honest with me, please. This is really beginning to worry me."
She sighs heavily, and I feel a wetness on the hand that is resting on her cheek.
"Are you crying, babe?" I begin to feel sick. "Baby, I'm begging you to tell me what's happening. Are you sick? Have you been having more nightmares?"
"No, no. It's nothing like that," she sniffles, and I feel her tiny body shiver.
"Then what is it? You can tell me anything."
"Luke.." She takes my hand, and somehow I hear her words before she even says them. "I'm pregnant."
