Chapter 20

Your POV:

I walk out of class and to the office to check on the mystery student. It was lunch

I walk in and see three people.

Ben

Mal

And Eric.

Except, Eric and Mal weren't on the bed.

It was Ben.

Ben was the one who had gotten hurt.

I couldn't recognize him because he was unconscious and bruised across his face line.

"What happened to him?" I ask as calmly as possible.

Mal turns towards me and she has puffy red eyes. 

Realization hit me: She'd been crying.

"The ball smacked him in the face. They were practicing without helmets."

"That's why they have helmets! To protect them!"

"It's fine, though. He should be okay."

I feel my fingers flame up and something happens because Ben starts moving around.

I look at my hands. 

It didn't emit any light, so I'm not sure what happened, but I sure want to find out soon.

Ben sits up a bit Andi rush to support him.

"What happened?"

"You were knocked out by the ball, bro!" Eric tells him.

"I did?"

We all nodded.

He rubbed his head a bit and I walked over to the freezer and got him an icepack.

I placed it on his head. He flinched, at first, but relaxed and eased into the nice cool feel.

"Guys, let's let him rest."

We walk to lunch and sir down.

"Hey, where've you guys been?"

"We checked on Ben."

I see Audrey.

She smiles and waves me over; I kiss Carlos's cheek and walk over to her.

"Did you find out who was hurt?"

"Yeah, it's Ben."

"Him!? I thought it would be Doug or Eric!"

"Same here, but apparently they were playing without their helmets and Ben was struck cold."

"Really? That's why we have helmets, guys!" She exclaims.

"That's what I said!"

We laugh and I head back to my table.

"What did Audrey need?"

"Cheer information. That's it." I lie.

Carlos squeezes my hand and I lean onto his shoulder.

"I lobe you, (f/n)."

"Love you to, Carlos."

He kisses me briefly and the bell rings.

Well, that's what I get for spending half of my lunch in the office with Ben.

I walk to my next class and sit with Evie.
