The Time With The Green Eyed Monster
(song of the chapter: Shark in the Water // VV Brown)
I hang up from my call with Austin and drive towards our apartment. Tonight we're going out with a bunch of our friends, because why the hell not. He's already there, and so are the majority of them but I've still got to change because I'm wearing the dingy sweats that I sported to class.
When I reach the apartment, I make a quick turn-around. It didn't take me long to find a sexy, but not over-the-top outfit and yank a brush through my long locks. Before I know it, I'm on my way to the college bar that Courtney had beckoned us out to.
I'd be lying if I said I hadn't been slightly skeptical when I first heard the location. With Austin's history with alcohol and what not, I wasn't sure if going out to a college bar was the best idea. Austin, however, swore up and down that the ambiance wouldn't so much as phase him. He simply wanted to bask in the company of our friends. Of course I caved, I can hardly tell that boy no when he sets his mind to something.
From my lap, my phone chimes and I fumble to answer the call.
"Hello?" I ask, unsure of who was on the other end considering I hadn't checked the caller ID.
Courtney's shrill voice pierces my ear drum through the line and I yank the phone away from my ear slightly. "Are you almost here?"
"Yeah I'm down the street, I just told Austin I'd be there in a few."
"Well, just a heads up, Kate is here." Courtney murmurs, her usually chipper voice taking on a dark tone.
My stomach churns and my fists tighten around the wheel. "I'll be there in a sec, I'm down the street." My foot weighs heavier on the gas pedal as I disconnect our call.
I don't trust Kate around Austin alone. Not that I don't trust Austin, it's her I don't trust. Granted, they aren't technically alone, our friends are there too. It's just the thought of her being near him, makes my vision fog over with a red haze.
I'm so deep in my thoughts that I don't even process my surroundings until I've parked and already entered the bar. Middle by DJ Snake is blaring throughout every speaker and the atmosphere's buzzing is practically tangible.
The couches and chairs that all of my friends are gathered around is right along the perimeter of the dance floor. The first thing I notice is Austin leaned back in a chair, an ankle slung casually atop of his other knee. And what do you know, Little-Miss-Kate is not too far. Unlike Austin, she's standing up. As a matter of fact, it's practically impossible to miss her with the gaudy, five inch heels she's sporting.
Leaning against a nearby wall, I watch as she sways her hips seductively and curls a finger at my boyfriend, summoning him. I know none of them can see me from where I'm standing, but I have a clear view of everything they're all up to. Austin doesn't even shift when Kate beckons him to dance with her, but I doubt she's getting the hint. Her left eyelid drops down in a heavy wink and I swear I contemplate murdering the bitch. Every fiber in me wants to lunge at her throat, my vision tints with an eerie shade of red.
Go away! I scold the green eyed monster that's messing with me as I watch Kate and Austin.
My stomach churns as I say their names together in my mind.
Kate and Austin.
Kate and Austin.
Unable to bear anymore of this masochism I turn my back on them and flee towards the bathroom. The bathroom door swings open right behind me and I don't notice Courtney until she touches my shoulder.
One look at her sympathetic eyes and I know she saw me watching them.
"It's a lot less worse than it looks." She assures me, but I roll my eyes.
