The Time We Got An Apartment
(song of the chapter: Daughters // John Mayer)
This isn't at all how I'd imagined things would play out when Austin first suggested we move in together. Yet, here we are three months later sitting on the floor of our new loft.
I'm glancing around the hollow apartment and I smile to myself. We have little furniture in the apartment as of right now. Together we decided what pieces of each other's furniture we'd be bringing into our first home. Apart from the dining room table and the entertainment center for our den, the rest of our furniture won't be arriving until tomorrow afternoon. Austin suggested that we wait until our mattress arrived before we stayed the night here, but I couldn't wait. A small smile is playing on my lips as my mind creates what I think the finished outcome will look like.
My gaze halts on Austin's face when I notice him watching me. A shy smile creeps onto my face and he tilts his head to the right just a bit. "Do you like it?" I swear he's asked me this at least seven times today.
"Babe," I look him dead in the eyes, a sincere look overcoming my face. Crawling across, what will soon be, our living room I climb onto his lap. "I more than like it. I'm in love with it." The words seem to ease his posture, as if he's been worried that I've changed my mind since the last time he asked me.
"Wanna know what else I'm in love with?" I encourage.
His face is pressed against my shoulder, and I can feel his lips brushing against the skin of my chest that my tank top doesn't protect. "Hmm?"
Grabbing his face carefully, I turn him to look at me. "You." I press my lips against his cheek, then pull back. "And the fact that I'll be coming home from school everyday to you."
His lips touch mine with purpose and I feel the goosebumps raise up along my arms. Too soon, he pulls away. "Well I won't always be home from work when you get home from school."
"Don't burst my bubble."
He chuckles and I can't help but touch his mouth with the pads of my fingers. Instantly he reaches up to hold my hand against his lips. Ever so softly his teeth nibble on my fingers and I giggle softly, pulling my hand away. My hands drape around his neck and we sit still and silent for a few moments, just staring into each other's eyes. There's excitement seeping into Austin's expression and I raise my brows at him. "What are you so happy about?"
Faster than I can process, Austin jolts our position and before I know it I'm flat on my back pressed against the carpet. His laying atop of me, not bothering to hold his weight off but it's not uncomfortable. I wrap my legs around his waist and Austin pins my arms above my head. Bringing his face unbearably close to mine, he grins. I can feel his warm breath swirl out and graze my face.
"I'm also in love with that fact that I'll be coming home to you every night." He confesses and my heart swells.
"Every night." I repeat, staring up at my prize in awe.
Leaning in he presses his lips against the base of my throat and I tilt my head back to grant him more access. Slowly he drags his lips up from my collar bone to my jaw and back down. He repeats his slow, torturous circuit two more times and I can feel myself growing more restless. The breaths that are leaving my lips are shaky and I know Austin can tell he's making me crazy. I'm eager to touch him, but Austin still has my wrists pinned so I tug gently and he releases my arms. His hands fall to my sides and he moves his lips down to my throat to start his pattern over again.
Unable to bear it any longer, I wind my fingers into his thick hair and pull his mouth away from my neck. He glances down at me, analyzing if there's an issue. When he finds no resistance in my calm face, I start to pull his face closer to mine. Austin can feel how desperate I am for our lips to converge, and he moves achingly slow.
His lips are about to fall on mine and I allow my eyes to slip closed. The doorbell rings and my lids fly open, Austin turns his head towards the door and climbs off of me. A groan of protest tumbles out of my mouth as I watch him cross the apartment to answer the door. There's an ache on my lips, and I bite down on my bottom lip to try and relieve the craving they have for Austin.
"Orange chicken, sesame thai chicken, two egg rolls and fried rice?" The man at the door says.
"Yes." Austin confirms our Chinese food order and hands the man a wad of cash. The front door is closed shut and Austin sets our food down on the counter.
There's an obvious pout on my face as I climb up off of the floor and pad into the kitchen. "Thank god, they didn't forget the duck sauce." Austin murmurs.
"Yeah, thank god." I mumble under my breath.
Austin stops serving our food onto plates and turns to look at me. I avoid his stare and he chuckles softly. "Are you pouting because I didn't kiss you?" He asks.
"No." Yes.
"C'mere." He demands.
"No."
Austin steps forward and grabs my waist. Twisting us both around he presses me against a nearby wall. Austin's hands are on either side of my face and he's leaning in slowly. I suck in a fast breath just as his mouth crashes against mine. My head is spinning as he kisses me forcefully and holds my hips against his tightly.
I pull away, gasping for air and Austin grins. He turns back to the counter and continues making our plates. "Welcome home." He chuckles, and I'm left leaning against the wall trying to wrap my mind around what just happened and trying to catch my breath.
