The Time We Talked All Night
(song of the chapter: Dead in the Water // Ellie Goulding)

"Alright, I'm going to bed I have class early in the morning." Elena murmurs from her bed across the room.

"Goodnight."

My phone chimes, the screen lighting up to reveal I had another message from Austin. Pausing the show I was watching on Netflix, I swipe to unlock my phone and read the message in my head.

*What are you doing?* He asks.

*watching Netflix, what are you doing?*

*thinking about you*

A smile glides across my lips when I read his text. Before I'm able to reply, he texts me again.

*can I call you?*

Another one immediately follows that one.

*i won't be able to sleep until I get you off of my mind*

I look over at Elena in the dark and it looks as if she's asleep. Soft breaths are coming from her bed, so as long as I'm quiet it shouldn't be a problem. I roll over to face the wall and dial Austin's number. He picks up on the first ring.

"Hey," his husky voice melts my skin through the phone and I smile in the dark. "Hey."

"Why are you whispering?" He asks.

"Because you're sister is asleep across the room."

"Aw, how courteous of you." He teases and I laugh softly.

We chat back and forth for a while, and I eventually shut my laptop off and slide it off of my bed since I'm done watching Netflix for the night. Austin keeps making me laugh and I have to muffle my giggling with my palm in order not to wake Elena. We talk about anything and everything, he asks me what it's like rooming with his sister and if she sleeps around a lot. I tell him I couldn't tell him even if she did, I'm sworn to secrecy as her best friend. I ask him questions about his personal life and he does the same for me. We confess a lot of personal information about our history with relationships and he tells me about his most recent relationship with a girl named Kate. I talk to him about my childhood and my dysfunctional parents, along with my sisters who are both older than me and out of college.

At one point I glance over at my clock, and gasp.

"What?" Austin questions.

"Nothing, it's just that I just now realized its two a.m."

"Time flies when you're having fun. And I'm easy to talk to." Austin gloats through the phone.

I roll my eyes and laugh loudly. "Yeah right!" I blurt.

"For the love of god, Erin, tell my brother to go to sleep and get off of the phone." Elena groans from across the room.

"Sorry." I apologize. "Austin, I've gotta go, I woke up Elena." I whisper into the mouthpiece.

"Nooooo!" He bellows through the phone and I smile. "Tell Laney to chill out."

"Austin, she has class early. I'll talk to you tomorrow."

"Fine... Good morning Erin."

My eyes flicker to the clock that now reads 2:07a.m. and I smile. "Good morning." I repeat, then I hang up the phone.
