Steve's POV
I tested out my leg awkwardly. I must've landed on it wrong after the building fell and sent me flying. It wasn't anything I couldn't handle. I paced back and forth, trying to walk it off. The cuts weren't much, they would be all healed in a day or so. Nat had gone in to interrogate the Maximoff and Clint was talking to the other prisoner with Bucky. Which just the rest of left us here."Do you think they got any information yet?" I wonder aloud.
As if on cue I heard pained screams from the warehouse. "HAIL HYDRAAA!"
"I'm guessing no." Tony said.
"Hydra really has some serious loyalty." Bruce commented while tending to Sam.
I nodded, my eyes locked on Sam. He was burnt to a crisp and wrapped in bandages. It was an awful sight. First Bucky and now Sam? When will Hydra stop? And Amanda... No. I'm not thinking about that right now.
"How is he?" I asked, gesturing to poor Sam.
Bruce sighed. "Not good. I can't help him anymore, I'm not Doctor Cho. I studied gamma radiation not human anatomy."
The mention of Cho brought our spirits even lower. The Avengers tower, our tower, crushed her. Hydra killed her. We haven't even been able to hold a proper service or even contact her family. Hydra must fall. Once and for all.
Bruce threw down what he was using. "I can't do this, he needs a hospital." He insisted.
"Why isn't he at one?" Tony asked.
"He insisted on coming. He wanted to make sure everyone was ok and report to you Cap." Bruce clicked a pen in his fingers unconsciously. "He hasn't been awake since."
"Get him to a hospital." I command.
"You're going to the base right?" Bruce inquired. "What if you need the other guy?"
"I need this guy right now. I need someone to take care of Sam. You're more then just the Hulk."
"Yeah? Well he's the only guy anyone ever seems to need." Bruce admits, rolling Sam onto a Quinjet. "But don't worry, Sam will be better before you know it. Just do one thing for me."
"What's that?" I ask.
"Make Hydra pay for what they've done. To Cho, to Sam, to Amanda- everybody."
"Don't worry." Tony promised. "We'll dig Hydra so deep into the ground they won't ever to see the sun ever again."
Bruce looked to me for one last confirmation. Could I really promise we could take them down?
"We'll get them." I announce.
Bruce gave a tight little nod, hopped into the Quinjet, and took off. Now it was just Tony and me waiting outside the warehouse. Tony kept looking at me, wanting to say something but not knowing how to say it. After a minute he finally came out with it.
"Do you think she's dead?" He blurted.
I knew instantly he was talking about Amanda. It felt as if Tony had reached out and squeezed my heart in his fist. It was hard to grasp that she could be dead, I wasn't sure what to believe. "We can't really know for certain. She could be just fine-"
Tony stopped me. "Cap, I mean for real. No one else is here, you don't have to pretend to keep my hopes up. Just be honest, do you think she's still alive?"
Now was the tipping point. I had been arguing with myself about this ever since Koda mentioned it. Which did I believe? I finally sighed.
"I don't think she made it. Hydra seemed focused on killing us. I'd hat to say it, but it's the only one that makes sense. Hydra didn't try to capture anyone else." Sadness clawed at my throat. Thinking it was one thing but saying it... that made it real. Too real.
