"I said, leave him alone," I repeated, "Honestly, what good would it do to remove the last Lastky from life? It would create chaos and more hunters. You would doom yourself because you killed the King. Do not do this."
"You are well-spoken, but he has breached the border I set."
"Not on his own! I gave him permissions."
"Why? You think you are more important than I? You think your permissions override my authority?"
"No. But you need to be a little more reasonable. He will not hurt a soul in here. He does, and go ahead. Do as you wish. But if he does nothing wrong, you will leave him be."
"Alright then. He breaks any rules, hurts a single soul, and I will lay the guilt- not on him- but you. You are responsible for him."
I nodded. "Yes sir. Rob, this way."
A cub tumbled into our path, and I stepped back to give it room. Rob sat on the ground, and rolled to his stomach. The cub looked interested, and snuffed the tuft of hair Rob had on the front of his head. He nuzzled Rob, and Rob stroked him a little before his mother collected him.
"You do well with cubs. Where did you figure out how to do that?"
"My mom. She told me what to do around a cub or baby of any kind. I'm kinda baby-conditioned. I know how to treat and talk to most ages of children. Newborn to about 10."
"Excellent. You will have to deal with a lot of cubs in this meadow."
"Will I now?"
"Of course. When will you not?"
Rob looked a little sick from my last comment, but followed despite his visibly sick expression.
"Now why did you continue to come back?"
"Preston, I've had a lot of loss in my life, if you couldn't tell already. You've seen my behavior in those times. My dad gave you a ticket to being an orphan. Believe me, I had no idea he would do that. If I did, I would've stopped him, but I didn't understand."
"Rob, get to the point. I know there is one."
"My point is, I never wanted to hurt you in any way. That week you were at the castle, was the best of my life. I wanted to keep it that way. I had my friend take down the magic barrier. You can come over whenever you like, okay?"
"Rob, that is not the point. That is a subtopic."
"Fine. I really like you Preston. I like like you. In that way. I'm being forced to find a partner, and I don't like it at all. You were my solace when you were at the castle. I want you back with me. If you don't wanna, I can live, it's just I'll be nagged to death by the higher ups."
"Rob, I appreciate the offer. I can go with you, but only for so long. There will be intervals where I must return, but most times I can stay with you."
"Thankyouthankyouthankyou!"
