Hidden underneath mahogany tables
Shoved deep between layers of clothes
Buried ten feet below the ground;
Our remnants lay like broken glass
Shameful secrets hide behind looped handwriting
The night still cries for you.
I don't have enough handkerchiefs to dry her tears
Nor do I have enough words to soothe her fears
She erupts; agony spreading through blinding lightning
Longing latches on to the sound of anger
Gasping, breathless, breathless; desperation fogs my lungs;
You only start to feel your heart's weight once the cloud of hope has dissipated
Evaporating into nothingness then condensing into misery;
An agonizing cycle in constant repetition
Like a carousel you could never get off of.
A dominant urge to dig everything back up
Surges over me but the waves of defeat are stronger;
They crash onto me; all that remains are the dregs of misplaced hope.
