TDWT: Miranda's Way (Episode 21: African Lying Safari)

Miranda's POV:

I woke up on top of Alejandro this morning, and he was fast asleep too.

I looked out the windows of Economy Class to see that the sun was beginning to rise. I checked my phone to see that it was about six in the morning in the timezone we were in.

I tried to get up, but Ale had a grip on my waist, a tight one.

I looked at his face. He was so at peace it seemed, the hair falling in his face, and his light breathing.

It reminded me of a time way back before we really were this close. Back when we were headed to the Yukon. Back when I kissed him for the first time.

I smiled at the nostalgia. Though everything was peaceful, I did have to get up, so I continued to struggle to break free from his loving embrace.

I suppose it was too much because he soon began to stir.

I gasped quietly, freezing in place.

But, Alejandro nearly mumbled a bit, trying to pull me back down.

The things he said I couldn't translate, they were all jumbled bits of Spanish and some sloppy English. The only thing I could get out of it was my name.

I decided to try to see what he had to say, so, I continued to stir, getting a few words out of him each time.

"No me dejen sola..."

That was the first full sentence I got out of him. Though I didn't know its meaning, I knew it had something to do with me.

"Usted no entiende lo mucho que te necesito."

I knew necesito meant need. What did he need?

I started to talk back. "What do you need, Ale?"

He mumbled something I couldn't catch, and fright came over his sleeping face.

"No vaya! ¡Te lo ruego!" he started getting louder.

I put a hand on his cheek. "Alejandro? Are you okay?"

I was worried. I'd never seen him like this before. I'd never seen him so afraid.

"¡Vuelve! Miranda!"

My eyes widened. "I'm here, Ale! I'm here, it's alright! Wake up!"

He struggled a bit, holding me tighter, almost to the point where it hurt.

Then all of a sudden, his eyes shot open, and he began panting.

He sat up, and looked at me, who was on his lap.

There were tears in his eyes, and his whole body was shaking.

It took me a minute to find the words to say.

"Are you okay?" I asked simply after a few minutes.

He took a second to respond, then he nodded.

"What happened? I've never seen you get so afraid..."

"I wasn't afraid..." he mumbled.

"If that wasn't fright, then I don't know what fright is." I told him gently.

I looked him right in his eyes. It looked like he was about to burst into tears at any second.

He sighed lightly. "Don't worry about me. It was only a dream."

I shook my head. "I can't not worry, you were practically screaming. I'm surprised Duncan didn't wake up."

He look over at the delinquent sleeping soundly on the bench across the room.
