Miranda's POV:

The boat arrived at the coast after the sun had set.

I watched some nurses wheel Alejandro into the hospital and I followed, or tried to. I actually had to wait a few hours so they could take a look at him and run tests.

Those hours felt like they lasted days. I sat in the waiting room, trying to calm myself down as much as possible. My tears were dry by this point, but my anxiety was far from gone.

After those long hours, I was finally allowed to see him.

He was in critical condition, as expected. He had third-degree burns almost everywhere and he had broken his right leg and his left arm. It was honestly a miracle that he survived after it had happened.

When I walked into his room, he was unconscious, wrapped up in bandages and casts. His heart monitor was the only sound in the room that was audible.

That is until I broke back down into tears.

I stumbled over to him, holding his bandaged hand.

"Ale...thank goodness you're still here."

The doctors had told me he was on strong pain medication and he had been knocked out from it having drowsiness side effects.

So, he didn't wake up for a long time. I stayed, though, talking to him as if he was awake. It was honestly very comforting.

After about an hour, someone else walked into the room, but it wasn't someone who worked at the hospital.

It was a woman, about in her forties or fifties, with a curvy, tan figure and long dark hair. She wore a red coat and black pants. Her eyes were familiar emeralds.

Tears were in her eyes. "Oh, my poor baby."

She looked over at me. "Are you Miranda Caramela?"

I nodded. "Yes, and you are?"

"Oh, forgive me. My name is Pamela Burromuerto. I'm Alejandro's mother."

My eyes widened. "Oh my goodness, I'm so so sorry about Ale. I'm still trying to cope with this being real."

"Chica, do not apologize. I've heard so many wonderful things about you from my son. I have never in my life seen him so passionate about someone before. You must really be special if you've made him so happy."

I lightly smiled. "That's nice to hear. But, I still feel like this is all my fault."

She shook her head, putting a hand on my shoulder.

"It is not your fault, querida. There was not much anyone could do to stop this from happening."

I sighed, rubbing his hand with my thumb.

Pamela put a hand on his cheek, tears sliding down her cheeks.

"He was such a beautiful boy, inside and out. He always seemed to be a manipulating charmer, but he was so much more than that."

"I agree. He's a sweetheart...and I love him."

After a while, Pamela had sat down and we'd talked about things that happened while we were on Total Drama. It was definitely a great way to lighten the mood.

But, we were interrupted when I heard a weak voice.

"...Miranda...?"

I turned to see Alejandro's eyes slightly opened. The tears came rushing back down my cheeks.

"Yes, baby, it's me. How do you feel?"

He mumbled. "Confused..."

"No, I mean, do you feel any pain?"
