Soon after the party the coronation started, Prince Aaron shuffled down a long aisle and was showered in flowers and happy cheers. Elena's dad was right beside the prince and led him to where he would be crowned. Elena had never felt so happy, everything was so perfect. The prince was beaming and he then reached the end of the path. His dad was waiting for him and took off his own crown then started to place it on his son's head. Elena's dad wasn't smiling though, he had a stern look on his face and made sure to stay close to the royal family while keeping an eye out for any suspicious looking people. Prince Aaron lifted his head and started to turn to face the audience to show off his new crown when-
BANG!-A gunshot pierced through the air and just as Elena let out a scream her dad instantly took action and tackled the prince.Elena let tears fall down her cheeks, it didn't feel real. Cole put a hand on her shoulder and stared at the scene before them with wide eyes. Monica covered her mouth and stared at the floor. Her dad slid off of the prince and clutched his shoulder tightly, he tried to keep covering the prince but a new set of guards quickly took over and protected the entire family. Elena ran to her father's side and fell to her knees, his long and shaggy brown hair covered his face but allowed his faint smile to show. "Did you see that, Lena? T-that's pretty great huh k-kiddo, I s-saved someone...just like y-your m-mother did...I w-wonder if I'll s-see her," his voice was quiet and shaky. Elena hugged him tightly and checked for his wound, "Dad...please don't see mom...you're not meant to...not yet." "Why h-hun? I want t-to...she had the prettiest smile. I-it was kinda like y-yours." She was sobbing and noticed the small hole in his abdomen, it had surely pierced through a major organ-he wouldn't make it unless he got urgent care immediately. "SOMEBODY! HELP! P-please!" She was shouting and her voice was going hoarse, nobody was a doctor there. Nobody could've imagined somebody trying to assassinate the prince, then Elena remembered her magic and tried a spell.
She hovered her hands over the wound, "Healest Primus Caren!" A small red spark ignited but quickly died out, "Healest Primus Caren!" she pleaded. Once again the light flickered away, Cole kept trying to pull Elena away. "HEALEST PRIMUS CAREN HEALEST PRIMUS CAREN HEALEST PRIMUS CAREN!" Her father lightly tugged at her hands that were still hovering over his injury and he pulled them away. "B-but-" she argued, he smiled up at her, "Your mother had the most beautiful smile...c-can you s-smile one more time? P-please?" She let out another sob, "S-sure o-old man." Elena then gave a sympathetic smile and hugged her dad one last time.
"Love you, Lena," he smiled back at her and let out one last breath. Cole pulled her away and hugged her, "Master, he's happy and he died for a good cause." She nodded and looked back at her dad, he looked so peaceful-like when he fell asleep on the bus. Her eyes burned from tears and she ran out of the palace gates. Monica looked up from the floor, "Bernard..."
Cole took off after her but somebody grabbed his shoulder and stopped him from advancing. Cole turned to see Monica. "B-Bernard would've let h-her settle this o-on her own." she then wiped her eyes and let out a sniffle,"Dumb old man..." Cole watched Elena run off in her huge dress, she looked like Cinderella running from the ball. He sighed and patted Monica on the head, "It's okay to be sad, he was a good man." Monica tugged his hand off of her head, "Darn right. I knew that guy since he was five...he's...okay I guess." Monica let out a sob but Cole quickly hugged her, "W-wha?!" "I'm sure master would do this so I'll do it too." "Y-yeah..." Monica hugged back, "It's not fair! That prince should've...nevermind...not like I care anyways, thanks dragon boy."
Elena curled up under a tree and continued to cry, she couldn't seem to stop. She wondered how the prince felt or how the killer felt. She felt like she wanted revenge but she knew better than to give into those feelings. Somehow she fell asleep, it's funny how crying can make someone so tired. She heard faint footsteps when she woke up. When she looked up she saw Monica and Cole smiling, Cole offered his hand to help her up. Monica tried to scowl but she ended up sniffling a little and pulled Elena into a hug. "That darn old man..." "Huh?" Elena felt so worn out and her voice sounded monotone. "The royal family can't go outside for two months and...your dad never...came back, master." Monica gave out a sigh.
"Bernard."
