Elena and her dad thoroughly talked everything out, her grandma was a legendary mage that lived in another world full of magical creatures. This world was called "Areagore" and both of her parents were from there. At first Elena refused to believe in any of it but over time her father dug up more and more evidence. Eventually Elena grew accustomed to it all and by now loved hearing about Areagore. Her Grandma fought in multiple wars before she realized Areagore had become too dangerous, that's when she transported herself, her son, and his wife to Earth. Elena and her dad were now on the topic of mermaids. "So do they breathe water?" "No, they work like fish; they filter out the oxygen with their gills but they breathe above water with their lungs," her father responded. "Oh, cool! What about unicorns? Do you have any of those?"she exclaimed,"Yeah, we called them UniEquus. It's basically the same but Equus is Latin for horse. Most of the fairy tales humans hear are based off of true stories from Areagore,"he said. "Dad, that is so cool!" "I'm so glad you think so."
"Hey Elena, you know...you have powers too, right?" "You're kidding, no I don't!" she REALLY didn't believe that at all. "Both your mother and I had powers, so you have them too. Magic is genetic, hun," he chuckled. "I feel like I would've realized that earlier, dad!" Elena was blown away. "Why don't we do something fun, it's still summer right? You'll study magic and if you get to a certain point I'll get you an awesome surprise!"he enthusiastically yelled. Elena smirked,"Challenge accepted, old man!"
After studying her grandmother's book over and over Elena felt like she was ready for some training. "Yo, pops can I like perform a real spell now?" he was reading a thick book which appeared to be in a different language. He quickly bolted upright and ran to the basement shouting, "LET ME GET THINGS SET UP FIRST!!!" By the time Elena got 'The Forgotten Mage's Diary' her dad claimed that he was ready. She slowly shuffled down the stairs only to find her dad had bubble wrapped the entire basement besides a table that had two cases on it. One case was much larger than the other which intrigued Elena. "Oh, I'm so excited Lena!" he said as he dashed to the small thin case, he shoved it in her face. "This is your training wand! It was mine when I was your age!" he proceeded to open it. "What's that other case for?"she asked.
"Ooh, story time," he whispered to himself. "Okay, so dragons had a huge war on Areagore so most of them ended up migrating to Earth. They changed their forms to blend in, it worked for a while but when the humans found out they hunted them down nearly to extinction. This sucked for mages because they were the dragon tamers of Areagore, so you could imagine how sad they were when they came to Earth and found their dead companions. This is one of the last dragons Elena-and it's yours now,"he said. Elena unlocked the leather case and opened it to find a speckled egg, "Am I supposed to make it hatch with magic?" "Yep! He's ready, this is how mages first bond with their dragons," he whispered. Elena flipped through the book and came across a growth spell," Hertu sacrina growus harjus!" She waved the small wooden wand along with her words as instructed in the book. Soon sparks came crashing from her wand, the sparks grew and grew until they eventually engulfed the egg. In one big poof of blue smoke the egg had vanished and in it's place was a small lizard with wings. It was skinny and frail, it's scales were a pearly sapphire color. This was her dragon!
