Evelyn stood up, "I think I should go home now...I'm not really helping." Elena looked up at her, "Okay, be careful though, I think the Dragon Resistance is probably getting angrier by the second." Evelyn nodded and left the house.
Monica rubbed her temples, "What now?" Cole rubbed his chin, "There's not much we can do besides decide on that." Elena glanced at him, "I-Is it true...what you said earlier?" Cole's expression quickly turned shocked, "What? The...me being king?" Monica glared at him,"YOU'RE NOT SUPPOSED TO LET HER KNOW THAT-"
Elena gawked at the duo, "It is?! I need someone to clear this up for me...my parents were born here then they took the Dragon Prince to Earth with them to escape the war? That seems so far fetched..." Cole sighed, "I don't know what to tell you. It's the truth." Monica nodded.
"Here, let's give you a time line. Your parents are born in Areagore, become military heroes like your grandma but get caught in the Dragon Revolution. Your mom is going to have you and realizes that she can't fight this war. The Dragon King wants to ensure his legacy so when he hears that your family is escaping to Earth he gives Cole to you guys. You're born here so your mom is eventually forced into the war anyways because your grandma's super slow with portals." Monica starts. "My grandma was not slow!" Elena exclaims.
Cole sighs, "Your dad was really fast at getting us to Areagore but a lot of magic was on Earth because no one was using it but Areagore was being drained of magic due to the war, that's why your grandma was struggling. Anyways, your mom...dies in battle. Your dad raises you on Earth while I'm stuck in my egg waiting for you. Your grandma never wanted to go back-she wanted you to be human and never get hurt like your mother. Once your grandma died your dad immediately went back, introduced you to magic, and gave you me. After all, you had to return me to my family but..."
"What is it Cole?" Elena asked. "N-Nothing, by the time we got back...they were already dead." Cole finished. Elena gasped, "How? When did you find out?" Monica sighed, "Dragons are basically immortal but that doesn't mean they can't be killed. I stayed in Areagore and the war raged on for years, it took some of Areagore's best warriors, it's effects weren't restrained from royalty. It took Prince Allen and the entire Dragon Royal Family...well except for him." she nudged Cole.
"P-Prince Allen? I've never heard of him before." Elena pondered. Monica quickly responded, "He was supposed to be king. He was the oldest son." Cole covered his face in his hands, "Dragons only kill, no matter what we do! Look at our situation right now, Karzen will be killed because of me."
Elena gasped, "That's not true! It's not your fault!" Cole glared at her, "Don't you see? All of it's my fault. If I died along with my family then...Areagore would be safe. Dragons aren't meant to be around others, they just end up hurting others! Look at your dad, your mom, everyone...it's because of dragons. I'll only end up hurting you too."
"That's not true. None of this is because of you, dragons got out of control-but others did too! Mages, fairies, everyone!" Elena refuted. Cole pulled his face from out of his hands and left the room-no, left the house? He stormed outside and went out in a blue puff of smoke.
He came out as a dragon, he was the size of a two story building! "Monica what is he doing?!" Elena panicked. Monica facepalmed, "Dragon puberty."
They ran out after him. "Cole! It's okay! You didn't do anything wrong!" Elena shouted. A storm was brewing and wind thrashed at Elena's hair. It whipped at her eyes and she hugged herself for warmth. The dragon shook his head in disapproval. "Cole, what do you want? Do you want me to ride you? What are you doing?" she continued, he shook his head again and inched away from her.
He seemed scared, of himself. He was huge and he stared at his large claws. Before Elena could protest further he flew away and out of sight. "COLE!" she shouted after him, but to no avail.
"He's such a depressed, moody little guy. That's pretty small for a dragon, his dad was the size of the palace. He was pretty cool." Monica smugly crossed her arms. "How are you not worried?" Elena panicked. "HE'S A DRAGON! HE WILL BE FIIIIIIINE!" Monica stormed into the house, leaving Elena alone.
Elena frowned and started walking, she didn't know where she was going but she had to find Cole no matter what. He was her best friend, and that title was irreplaceable.
She tugged at her cloak and tried to keep warm. She saw a person off in the distance, "COLE?" she called. A head turned towards her-no, that's not him. The person ran up to Elena and Elena started backing up. She started running but was too slow and the hem of her cloak was grabbed.
Elena turned ans stared at the person-Azmend?! "N-No, please! Leave me alone!" Elena begged. He smiled, "Not so tough without your friends huh?" Azmend's eyes glared at her face, she was crying. "I...I'm sorry." he let her go, "I...did you lose him too?" Elena cautiously looked at Azmend, "Who?"
"Cole, I lost Karzen...I think somebody's trying to gather dragons...I'm scared, I don't know what they did with my brother." Azmend's white hair blew in his eyes. Elena hastily enveloped him in a hug, "That's not right..." Azmend hugged her tightly and sobbed into her shoulder, "I know..."
She was confused, "You do?" He chuckled, "Of course, they have it all over the news...It's my fault. I killed my brother..." he cried even harder, "I-I was just a kid! I-I...I didn't know...." Elena patted his back and held him, nobody knew, that entire war, this entire situation, was just a big misunderstanding.
He whimpered, "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry. I'm the one who's supposed to be getting executed..he was innocent." Elena pulled him closer, "I know, it's okay. Everything's going to be okay."
