I can't take this anymore. I thought to myself. I've already tried on like fifty skirts and dressed each. And my feet are killing me when she made me try on all those heels. I told her I don't wear heels.
"Okay, this is the last one, I promise." Elilah said handing me a blue dress.
I took the dress from her and said, "You keep breaking your promise because you've been saying that for the last hour." I closed the dressing room stall door and changed into the dress. I tied the bow in the back then walked out of the stall and dressing room. Ethan and Elilah were waiting for me in the waiting room.
"Do I have to get this too?" I asked.
"Yes, you look adorable. That dress totally brings out your eyes. You have to wear that to school tomorrow. The boys will be all over you." Elilah said.
"I think you just might be able to kick Heaven off her thrown. You're prettier, nicer, and much smarter. Elilah only passes the nicer and smarter factor, but I'm not saying she isn't pretty." Ethan said.
"Thanks." I looked in the mirror. The dress was a couple inches above my knees. The part above the silver ribbon was a sparkly blue. Below the ribbon was a bunch of layers of blue, the outside layer was lace. I had to admit that it was cute.
"You can definitely wear those silver heels we bought to go with that." Elilah said excited.
I sighed, "I don't wear heels."
"Well, you're gonna start tomorrow." Elilah said.
Ethan stood up. "I'm ready to go, its three o'clock and I have a date with Sasha at six. I need to get ready."
"Fine." Elilah said, "Go change." I went back into the dressing room and changed into my short skirt and too little shirt.
I walked out of the dressing room with the dress in my hand. "Do I have to get-"
"You're getting the dress and you're wearing it tomorrow with the heels." Elilah said getting two of the bags of clothes that we bought and left Ethan to get the others which was a lot. But he didn't complain.
"Does all the girls dress like they're going to a party?" I asked.
"Most of them." She said taking the dress from me and placing it on the counter. She swiped her credit card in the machine and pressed in her pin. The woman working the cashier put the dress in a bag and said, "Have a nice day."
"You too." I said grabbing the bag and leaving the store. "Would you describe yourself as popular?" I asked Elilah.
"Um, not necessarily." She answered.
"What is that supposed to mean?"
"It means that I choose not to have all of the attention on me. I don't like being the focus of attention. Unlike Elijah, he adores it. Being popular means that people care what you say and do, and that means people expect you to do certain things. And I don't want that kind of pressure on me. Were you popular?"
"Well, when you put it that way, not necessarily. I mean people knew who me and my friends were but we weren't exactly part of the in crowd." I said remembering how my life used to be. I missed it so much, I miss Mom and Dad so much.
Snap out of it, Jamie, I thought to myself, don't cry, don't let them see you cry. Crying is a sign of weakness and you need to be strong.
I blinked back the tears and kept talking. "So if Heaven is the most popular girl in school, who's the most popular boy in school?"
Elilah stopped walking, her eyes were wide open. She was looking over my shoulder. "Him." She said. I turned around and couldn't believe what my eyes just landed on.
I never knew someone could be so...so...there can't possible be a word to describe him. Gorgeous, sexy, hot, and beautiful doesn't even begin to describe him. He's much more than that.
He was standing in a store looking at some shoes with a couple of his friends. His blonde hair was spiked up in the front and was cut low in the back. He had a nice body, you can obviously tell that he works out. I bet underneath that shirt he has a six pack. He has blue eyes that look so innocent. He looks to be about five foot eight.
Jamie, this is not the time. The only boy you need to be interested in is Jake. Your brother needs you. I thought to myself. Maybe when Jake is feeling better then you can go after that completely gorgeous, beautiful, smokin' hot-
"Omigosh Jamie, he is totally checking you out." Elilah said breaking my thoughts. I looked up and for sure he was looking at me. He smiled and I got a full look at his perfectly white teeth.
I was too in shock to smile back. Elilah elbowed me in the side. "When a totally hot guy smiles at you you are supposed to smile back, not just state at him like a psycho rapist."
I smiled back at him then he said something to his friends. And the next thing I know, I was being stared down by a bunch of horny guys. I had to admit they were hot, but definitely not my type. And they definitely had nothing on the smokin' hot guy.
I only recognized one face in that group, and it was Dakota. Dakota said something to his friends then started walking towards me.
I started to panic, "Omigosh, Elilah, they're coming over here. What do I do?"
"Um, just act flirty but play hard to get at the same time. When guys think you're not interested that just makes them even more interested. Guys like challenges. And hell, I'm a challenge." Elilah said flicking her hair over her shoulder.
Ethan tapped me on the shoulder and said, "I'm just gonna go wait in the car. But remember I have to get ready for a date so don't keep me waiting too long or you're gonna have to catch a ride home with those douches." Then he walked off. More like wobbled because of all the bags he was carrying.
"Hey, Elilah." The hot guy said to Elilah but he was looking at me. "Who's your friend?"
"Hey, Luke. And this is my cousin Jamie." Elilah said. Hmm, so his name is Luke. He definitely looks like a Luke. Maddie always said that I look more like a Breanna than a Jamie.
"Damn, why you ain't never tell me you had a hot cousin?" A caramel colored boy said. He was a little shorter than Luke and had really pretty light brown eyes.
"Because you didn't need to know." Elilah said.
Luke held out his hand, "Hi, Jamie." His voice is so...so...ugh, I'm speechless.
I shook his hand "Hi." Then I automatically pulled my hand back thinking about playing hard to get and what Elilah said. Guys like challenges.
"When did you get here?" He asked.
Elilah butted in and said, "That's none of your business."
"Friday." I said glaring at her. "I got here Friday."
"Are you staying here in Rosewood?" A guy with auburn colored hair asked.
"Yes, she is." Elilah said all of a sudden impatiently. "Now can we go before Ethan leaves us? I do not feel like walking home."
"Fine." I said.
"Well, bye Jamie." Luke said, "Maybe I'll see you around sometime."
"Yeah, maybe." I said then smiled. He smiled back.
Then Elilah pulled me towards the outside doors. Once we were outside Elilah started squealing. "Omigosh, Luke never really talked to me before. I never knew that he even knew my name. I mean people know me but I didn't think that Luke knew who I was."
"Yeah, but don't you remember when you said flirt with them and also play hard to get?" I said.
"Yeah." Elilah said opening the car door and climbing in.
I climbed in after her and closed the door. "Well, you did more playing hard to get than you did flirting." I said putting my seatbelt on.
"Sorry," Elilah said playing with her hair. "But we'll have another chance tomorrow because he said that he wants to see you again." She was smiling too hard and I just had to laugh.
"Girls and their stupid boy talk." Ethan said shaking his head and starting the car.
This year is definitely going to be interesting.
