Promise to Come Back

Volleyball tryouts were much easier than I thought they were going to be. Elilah, Ashleigh, and I all made the team. Dylan also made the team. It would be impossible for me to make the team if Dylan didn't make the team.

Dylan is like our best player so far. Maybe I should ask her for some tips. She obviously knows what she's doing.

“I can't believe I made the team." Ashleigh said jumping up and down.

Elilah, Ashleigh, Dylan, and I were all in my room. Anthony was here, too. Like he promised me, he came to watch me tryout. We just got back from tryouts with good news. Coach Foster didn't hesitate at all with picking the teams.

Maybe that's because a lot of people who did tryout weren't good. A lot of them didn't even know how to set the ball. Some of them couldn't even serve the ball over the net.

This one girl tried to serve the ball but it went straight up in the air and broke one of the gym lights. But Coach Foster put her on the team because he thought she had a lot of potential. She knew how to set and she was really good at spiking.

“How could you not make the team?" Anthony said, “You were really good."

I swear those two like each other but just can't see it. I mean, they make it so obvious. Anthony basically only cheered for her during tryouts. Ashleigh always bring him up in a conversation somehow. And whenever we are all together they always sit next to each other.

They would be the cutest couple. Ashleigh and Anthony sitting in a tree. K.I.S.S.I.N.G. I thought to myself.

"Thank you." she said.

Elilah's voice broke up Ashleigh and Anthony's moment. "I think Coach Foster could have picked a better team. He picked that girl with the red hair. She sucks."

Oh yeah, remember Kaitlyn, the talking machine. She tried out for volleyball and made the team.

"She's not that bad." I said hoping that I would believe myself. Truth is, Kaitlyn should stick with talking. Volleyball is not her thing.

She doesn't know anything about volleyball. She can't set, spike, bump, or serve the ball without it breaking something. Including somebody's face.

But Coach Foster had no choice but to pick her. Kaitlyn's dad is the principle of our school. And from what I've heard no one wants to be on his bad side.

"You've got to be kidding." Elilah said braiding her hair. "The girl doesn't know the first thing about volleyball."

True.

"And she nearly killed Anthony."

How could I have forgotten about that? When Kaitlyn tried to serve the ball it went up, bounced off the ceiling and almost took off Anthony's head.

"Yeah, I almost died." Anthony said laughing.

Dylan took a sip of her strawberry soda and said, "I don't think it's fair that she's on the team just because Coach is afraid of her dad. Principle Lawson couldn't fire Coach just because he wouldn't put his daughter on the team."

Dylan was right. It wasn't fair. But we can't do anything about, and that's exactly what I told them. "Forget about Kaitlyn. We made the team so don't worry about it." I stood up. "Now who's hungry?"

"Jamie, this is Michael. Micheal, this is Jamie." Mrs.Stella introduced me to her son. The one I was giving guitar lessons to.
