"Probably, I am grateful now for Chris" She said with slight sarcasm in her voice. She never liked her step-dad that much and didn't class him really as a dad. He was just another man in her life. "So where are we going?" she questioned and I thought about it too.

"Do you remember the garage just past asda? Its right down there, I think it has fuel. Alan's checking it now" he said as if it was perfectly fine to leave someone alone in the middle of a zombie apocalypse.

"SERIOUSLY JENNINGS YOU LEAVE SOMEONE ALONE OFF THEIR GUARD DURING A ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE! ARE YOU INSANE?" I blurted out without realizing it. I mentally kicked myself, why would I say that it's stupid, but true.

"Calm down Kat, we all know you like him but he has Lamim and Kyle with him" I went red with rage not embarrassment. I stepped closer, just inches from his face. He saw what I was threatening and backed off, hands up in surrender. I placed my hands by my side but keeping my gaze locked onto him. I could see the sweat rolling off his face, and the adrenaline rushing through his veins. "We should- uh, go. Yeah that would be a- uh good idea" he bit his lip and stumbled out the gate and I followed. I followed him through the empty streets and passed my home. It was run down and I couldn't recognise it as how I saw it only a few days ago. I shook my head and a tear escaped my eye. It was awful to think of this disaster they call a town, my home. No matter how bad I talk about it. I knew where I was when I was near.

The journey carried on and my hands began to ache and I could feel them starting to slip of the crutches. I could hear the sound of failure from miles off and to see it up close brought me to the brink of laughing. Kyle, Alan and Lamim were just sat around doing nothing at all. "LAZY!" I called from the top of the slope. The blood drained from their face as they searched for the source of the noise. I burst into laughter and they looked at me with a displeased look.

"Why do you bring a bunch of girls to help with a man's job?" Lamim said trying to pull a laugh out of the males of the group. Kyle laughed slightly, the laugh that says 'I don't get it'.

"You know I am actually offended by this" I stated acting hurt. "I bet I could do a better job than you" I challenged. I knew it would end badly but it would be worth it.

"Really, fine then" he pointed over to the engine of the van. "Fix it" I nodded and walked over to the truck, resting my torso on the bumper to lift the weight off my foot. I unscrewed a few caps and checked everything I could. I pulled out from the van and fell onto the gravel floor. Meg just stood and laughed at me not even caring that her best friend fell off a van. After I was fully aware of my situation I started laughing to even though in a lot of pain. Everyone but Meg gave me a confused look. They could see the pain I was hiding behind my laugh.

"Urg, Kat why are you laughing?" Kyle asked looking down at me. I carried on laughing and reached for the top of the bumper. I pulled myself up and reached for my crutches.

"I've calmed down now" I said still trying not to smile through my laughter. "Start the engine" I pointed behind me to the seats. Dylan rushed over and put the key in the ignition. The engine whirred to life; I just sat on the bonnet looking smug. Lamim wasn't happy and it made me smile even more. "Don't send a man to do a woman's job" I teased only causing another death glare. I high fived Meg and slid off the van. We piled into the van and drove off to find everyone else.

We pulled up outside Nicole's house and jumped out. I smiled once more but stayed by the van. It would need protecting between when everyone went in till everyone came out. It was great our plan was pulling into action and I finally would live through this all, possibly.
