Kat's P.O.V
I walked away from him for a brief moment and I knew that he was about to fall asleep, he was tired when I met him and clearly he wouldn’t admit it. I took over the watch and sat back on the sofa, my eyes fixed on the surrounding area. Even though it was dark I could see right through it and I didn’t feel that alone anymore, I had my friends at my side even if it was only two and both were male.
“Fuck” Alan muttered, jumping up to observe the surroundings, but he stopped the second he saw me. I smiled and waved at him. “I fell asleep didn’t I?” I nodded at him but didn’t move an inch. I didn’t need to. “And you took the watch?” I nodded again, feeling proud that, I, the one person in the worse state than anyone managed to keep a watchful eye over every one and to distract the zombies so they wouldn’t bother us. “Thanks, but keep this quiet alright” I rolled my eyes but nodded, passing over the pistol.
“We should probably get going, I’ll get Ed and you go to the entrance” He nodded and walked off, the pistol at the ready for any kind of attack. I looked over at Ed who was calmly sleeping on the floor next to the sofa. I poked him gently on the arm, but he didn’t stir. I pushed him lightly but he still didn’t stir. I breathed out and took the time to stand up so that I would keep the groans to a minimum. I stood up and looked at Ed; I raised my leg slightly and kicked him in the side. This time he did wake up but started moaning at the pain in his side.
“What was that for?” He questioned, looking up at me. I smiled at him but walked away without another word.
“So he lets you kick him yet he won’t take it when I call him a freak?” Alan called from the entrance. I nodded and he just rolled his eyes and walked out, closely followed by me. “I swear that guy is flirting with you” I heard Alan attempt to mutter under his breath. I breathed out heavily at his comment, why would he care if he was flirting with me? I turned to face what I guessed was the jealous person in this entire situation. “What?” He asked, looking around as if there was something following him, he knew exactly what.
“Why do you care if he flirts with me? It’s not like it’s any of your business, my brother I would understand this kind of behaviour from but really, you? We broke up years ago and you just can’t put it behind you can you?” I questioned angrily at the confused male that was standing awkwardly. I span around to walk out the building and to check that it was safe to leave but of course a firm hand clasped around my arm.
“I don’t trust him; I have put it all behind me so just stop it. I am just worried for you safety that’s all” he muttered quietly, anger and aggression was clearly pasted in his voice and for once in my life I have never felt so uncomfortable around him. Granted I didn’t particularly like him and we didn’t get along that well together but even when we broke up I never felt so out of place and to be completely honest, scared. I never saw this side of him and the seriousness in his voice only concluded to the fact of his anger that frightened me most of all, not his firm grip or emotionless voice but the anger he was showing towards me. I always saw a quiet and kind-hearted person in him; never in my wildest dreams did I ever picture this side of him. I never have and no longer want to see him angry.
“He is bad news, he randomly appears in the middle of nowhere and saves you from a fire that no one knows the cause of yet? Isn’t that slightly coincidental?” the tone in his voice didn’t waver, it only rose in his voice making it more evident to everyone and I was surprised Ed didn’t notice anything suspicious. I nodded at him but truth was I never believed in coincidents and I only agreed because I was so shocked at his sudden actions that I didn’t want to annoy him any further. I may be a strong, intelligent girl that is quiet and her bark is clearly worse than her bite but I have my limit. The raised tone in anyone’s voice, along with such a sickening tone was enough to send shivers across my spine, I wasn’t a person to cry that easily but when I did, it wasn’t for show.
