This can’t be happening, everything was alight. Fire spread everywhere, burning the corpses of the undead and the dead. It was horrific, every thought of Robin flashed in my mind. New thoughts poured into my head. “NO!” I screamed both aloud and in my mind. What if everyone else was caught in the flames? What if my best friend and long lost friend were trapped in the blazes of the fire, taking the same fate as Robin? “No this can’t happen, this can’t happen?” I chanted quietly, the possibilities running through my mind, never backing down.

“What is wrong?” Alan and Dylan chanted simultaneously. I shook my head, trying to back down from the blaze but my feet took steps forward towards what may have been a gruesome death. “You’re insane! Kat stop it!” Dylan yelled, trying to grab a hold of my arm. I wasn’t going to give in. all I could do was watch the dancing flames hypnotise me into walking into their fiery grips.

“Don’t do this!” Alan yelled, their words were just distant to me, they were inaudible and I didn’t understand the gibberish that they spoke. “Kathryn you have no idea what you are doing” I felt like my body was in control, my mind trying to gain back its power to stop me from moving. I wanted to stop; this was not going to end well for anyone.

The heat emitting off the flames attacked my skin, sweat beading off and becoming more rapid with each step. I knew that if I didn’t stop I would burn to a crisp, leaving everyone to figure out what the plan was and endangering everyone. The flames climbed up the hill I stood on, lighting the dry grass on fire.

“Alan you can’t just stand there, help her” Lamim yelled at his friend that was immobilised with fear. “Dylan, you do something” He said turning to talk to the other man who was panicking. I heard their sighs as they ran towards me, not bothering to watch their step or the patterns of the forever increasing flames. Two firm arms grabbed my own, pulling me away from the fire. The light wrapped around my clothes, singing the bottom of my jeans, playing no part in the change of colour.

“You are fucking insane, you know that” Kyle yelled, after lying me on the floor to bring me back the reality. I took a deep breath in and life finally hit me. I wanted to cry at the ridiculous way I had acted, I was walking myself to what would be a horrible death.

“Next time please tie me up” I joked, standing up and finally seeing the looks on the two who had saved me and the two who were freaking out. I couldn’t help but laugh at their stupidity. “Look guys calm down alright, I just don’t like fire” I teased, placing a hand on both of them. Their frantic actions calmed down but something else made them stiffen. It made everyone stiffen; we turned slowly to face the problem. My eyes widened in shock as the problem moved forwards.

Dry pieces of dead skin peeled off the broken skull that held the rotting carcass of what I assumed to be its brain. I couldn’t help but look at the hideous creatures moving forwards, looking longingly at us, even if zombies can feel like that. Their clothes were torn, singed and covered in holes and worse of all dried blood. It made me feel uneasy and sick at the sight. I reached a hand behind my back to reach for a backpack that wasn’t there. I cursed under my breath, pushing my friends behind me.

“Run” I whispered to them, they just looked at me with either confusion or concern. Either way they would have to move. “Run” I whispered yet again but putting an edge to my voice. They did as they were told, the rest of the group running after them, leaving me to deal with the zombies much like I asked for.

I was completely lost; I didn’t know how to deal with this problem. There was no weapon in sight, but if there was it wouldn’t last long and I would become one of them before one of them was down and dead. I backed away slowly, looking around for some way to go. My glance ended up on the flames by the buildings. It was a long shot but it was worth a try.

I picked up the speed, running over to the flames that earlier were going to swallow me whole. The stupid creatures watched my movements, following me towards the fire, not understand that this was going to kill them and possibly me.
