Her face was blank, eyes open, staring endlessly at me as I ran through the deserted street in hope I would find someone to help. “Alan, look it is getting really dark now and there is a shop right there, what is the problem? We’ve passed at least ten shops in the past hour” Dylan yelled at me, making me wince at the anger in his voice. I had never seen him this angry, not even at Megan. She would just drive him over the edge and still he would not care. I did not envy this guy at all.
I sigh in defeat and walk towards the large buildings in front, heading over to the right one reading B&Q. At least there would be weapons in there, I guess. “Look, you go one ahead, I will follow behind” I saw the look on everyone’s faces, it was one of distrust. I blink at how little they trusted me after the past few hours, they are so mean. “Alright, I know I’ve been an absolute dick but trust me” I yelled, walking towards the darkened shop.
“Fine but if you run off, we won’t run after you” Rachel H called, throwing her hands in the air. I let out a silent breath glad that I no longer took the lead; if I did I would only drag them further into darkness leading them to an early grave, well more like an encounter with a zombie.
Everyone piled in through the front entrance, shutting it quietly once we were in. I wasn’t prepared for what was to happen next.
“Get ‘em” A deep female voice called out from the darkness. I groaned but turned endlessly in the darkness, even my companions were hidden by the lightless setting. I took a deep breath, hoping my heart rate would stay down with the slow inhale of air. I was wrong; it only made me tense up, quickening my breath and my heart rate increasing by the second I was inside the darkness.
A person jumped out at me, knocking me to the floor. I watched as my face was dug into the marbled floor and Kat’s unconscious body slid across the hard floor. I didn’t give in to the pain that was pushed into my body by the large person sat on my bag, pushing my face on the floor.
I tried to free myself but all attempts were futile, they were clearly stronger than I was and there was no way to get out from the groove my facer had made in the floor.
“Whatever you are attempting, you might as well get it over with” I said quietly, admitting my defeat in a gracious try. This loosened their grip on me, allowing me to sit up. I sit up slowly, letting my spine adjust to the sudden weight lost off of it. “Thank you” I said quietly, running over to where Kat’s body was. Luckily she was unharmed but she still was unconscious.
Lights began to flicker on and my attackers were shown up in the weak light surrounding the empty warehouse like building.
“Mercedes?” A weak voice belonging to Lamim called, walking towards the only female in the group. I stared at the woman surrounded by men both her age and older. I saw the look on her face, it soon hidden by the plum coloured hair that clearly showed her darker brown roots.
“Lamim, Kyle, Alan, I thought you guys died, I haven’t heard from you and you weren’t there on the last day of school” Her voice was laced with pure concern and worry. I sighed, standing up from Kat’s body and walking over to my friend. “Is everything alright? What happened to her?” her sentence started off quietly, making me feel like she actually felt concern until she uttered the last works; hatred filling her words.
“Well if it wasn’t for Kat, none of us would be living or at least made it this far. There were more of us but we were split up after a recent zombie hoard following us after something Robin had done. I won’t go into details of it right now. SO I see you met up with some… friends” I said slowly motioning to the men behind her, looking rather uncomfortable with the entire situation.
“Yes I met up with some of my motocross friends, but you still haven’t answered my question” She pointed at the weak body led on the floor, now surrounded by everyone else. “If she’s bitten, I won’t hesitate to chuck her in the street. Those stupid fucking zombies can have a meal, even if it won’t be much, and won’t taste good” She joked, the only one laughing at her joke. She rolled her eyes and eagerly waited for my answer.
“She is in a time of shock, she feels she is to blame for everyone’s deaths, and if you don’t mind have a little more respect for those who are trying to help” I yelled in her face.
