The gasps I heard just about tied it. I reached for the knife and pulled it away from my neck. I slipped from their hands and into mine, the blade digging into my hand. I was now my turn to be aggressive toward the attacker. I raised the knife to their neck but put it down after. “Hey” A slightly cowering Dylan said backing away from the rest of the group. I threw the knife away and ran closer to him, I wrapped my arms around him torso only to let go seconds later, slapping him across the face. It was still red by the time his hand reached it. “I deserve that”.

“What the hell?” I yelled at him. I was in no mood to care about my safety. “You leave me out in the wilderness with Georgina and him” I pointed to the offended looking Alan. I turned to face him. “Yes I was talking about you” I snapped before returning my aggression to one of my most trusted friends, well he once was, now he has nothing.

“Let me explain” he looked at my balled fist. He swallowed hard before choosing him next words. “We were forced okay” I gave him a confused glare before circling my hand for him to continue. “I along with your family, Emily, Nicole and Alan argued against it. We didn’t want to leave you even if it meant our journey was slowed down. She knew about the gun in your bag and aimed it you” I saw the pain and regret in his eyes, I had seen him cry on many occasions but he was so badly hurt that tears were just for sympathising him and they held no point. “I along with everyone else agreed, it was best; we knew how much of a fighter you are and we knew you could survive but with your ankle it was less of a chance” I was speechless, they didn’t betray me, they were saving me. I felt awful for flipping out on him but I would get nowhere and probably hate him for life if I didn’t.

I was completely speechless that not even my expression could amplify how word couldn’t explain this. I watched as the rest of the group flooded from the shadows; their expression lightening when they saw me and everyone else. Kyle and Lamim ran over to Alan whilst Emily, Nicole and my family ran to me; examining me for any damage, I couldn’t help but giggle at some events. Jane’s and Robin’s expressions were, less from pleasing. If looks could kill I would die, become a zombie and return only to drop dead once more.

“Welcome back” Jan spoke pure hatred in her voice. She literally spat venom at me before backing off to Robin, whose mood was no different. I shook my head in disgust. I had a feeling they had something against me since the day we left our home town.

“I see you met up with Rachel and Eloise” Emily said, rather happy to be reunited with her friends. I shrugged as if to say ‘it’s nothing’. I walked out from their huddle over to the escalators, it was dark upstairs but it was where, quite a lot of useful stuff was, now that winter was just around the corner. I came up with a plan and though best not to tell them after such a wondrous reuniting. I huddled myself into the corner between the kiosk counter and the wall, allowing my eye lids to fall, drifting my subconscious into a dark nightmare…

It was dark, everything was dark. I was a lone. Nothing was around a part from the loud groaning of Zombies that was slowly increasing on my position. I tried to back away from the sound but felt a cold solid wall of glass, it looked ten inches thick. I sighed heavily as the beasts came into view, I didn’t care that I was about to die but what was to come after was rather frightening. One step closer they came and the features were rather clear, it was all my friends, their skin rotting off their faces’ and arms. Their teeth dug into my skin, I could feel as the disease spread to my brain, killing off every cell possible.

The tore away at my skin, sucking everything dry before ripping off another part of my body, it was excruciating pain. A person looking rather familiar walked past. They turned to face me. “Help me” I screamed, they shook their head.

“Why should I ever help you, you’re just so perfect, why don’t you help yourself” they spat at me. That hurt more than the physical pain I was facing at that moment. They kicked at my head, laughing at my pain before walking off like I wasn’t even there.

I bolted upright and screamed at the sight of Dylan and Alan. I pushed them away, Alan know not to do that after what happened yesterday. I blinked to scan the background and to remember the journey of how I got here. My happy mood died away, for the troublesome two, the betrayers walked into view talking happily to each other, glaring at me with every step they took. “Alright people, let’s gather up supplies, Alan, Kyle, Nicole and Robin” I called robin’s name out slowly. “You come with me, we’ll check upstairs” everyone nodded and an evil sneer rolled across her face.

Everyone I didn’t call ran off to different corners of the shop. I headed upstairs to find clothes and blankets which would be helpful and light to carry. “Right what do we need?” Nicole asked her voice rather cheery for what happened.

“Clothes and blankets” I spoke not bothering to face her. “Robin go get the blankets, Kyle and Alan you go together and Nicole come with me” they nodded and we parted ways once at the top. “Nicole we have to get clothes that won’t fit, but won’t be too small or big” she tried to think through what I said before looking blankly at me. “Let’s just go clothes shopping” I joked and she laughed along with it.

After two hours, thick black smoke began to slowly fill my lungs. This wasn’t good. I turned around to see flames behind me, burning every piece of fabric in sight. I ran as fast as I could to escape the flames, Nicole trailing closely behind. I threw the clothes to her as we reached the escalators. “Get everyone out, I need to get Kyle, Robin and Alan” she didn’t have time to argue with me before embers were fired from the flames. I ran into the sector of where I thought they went. “Alan, Kyle” I spluttered as I inhaled more smoke. “Robin” I coughed, falling below the layer gathering around me.

“Kat help, Alan’s stuck” Kyle yelled, I pushed up from the floor and ran toward his voice. I skidded across the floor and looked to see Alan beneath a collapsed shelf. I rushed over to him but stopped when I saw Robin behind cornered by flames. I kicked the floor and saw desperation in both of their faces. The problem was I only had enough time to save one of them. Who do I chose: Alan or Robin?
