Meg’s P.O.V
“We are gonna die” I yelled out, throwing my arms into the air whilst the wild flames clutched to my fabrics. I looked towards everyone else to see their terrified faces, they didn’t want to die this way, no one did. I just feel so bad for Robin after she had to suffer this pain because no one could get to her in time. I walked over to the door; inspecting the fittings I noticed the loose hinge indicating the lop sided door. It clearly was stuck on something outside making it lock in place.
“Great so Meg has no faith in all this, we are so dead” Nicole chimed at the back of the group, dodging the tongues of fire easily. I wanted to laugh at the stupid moves she was pulling as each part tried to attack. Where was a camera in this place because this would’ve gotten so many views on YouTube at the time.
“Could someone lift the door” I said quietly to begin with but an argument had started, making my quiet inaudible amongst the talking. “Someone lift the fricking door” I shouted, catching everyone’s attention.
“You, what’s your name help me out here” Ryan said, pointing over to Joe. Once more I wanted to laugh at this but it wasn’t the best time. Finally the door was lifted to the right angle making it swing open freely. “Everyone out!” Ryan yelled, ushering everyone out the burning building. I made it out side and the sun was at its highest point.
I brushed at my clothes trying to brush away the soot and dirt that had come from the fire, how it was midday was a mystery to me but I wasn’t about to question it right now.
“So, where to?” I asked casually, yeah I haven’t totally been in a burning building, being completely frantic with a group of people. Yeah of course not. I just began to walk before I even got an answer, why waste time, I wanted to get away soon or I may break something, probably a bone but who cares?
“Don’t you want an answer?” Ryan called from behind me. I shook my head, I liked this plan: walk in a random direction and hope for civilisation or another group of people. Great plan! “Well anyway I know this is really lame but my grandmother lives near here, should take less than an hour to reach her house on foot, as long as we don’t get lost…” Well that is simple, don’t get lost. You might as well ask ice to stay solid in the desert. That is a strange analogy, I don’t think I’ll use that one again in the future.
“Ok, lead the way. Zambies might me lurking around” I heard Nicole, Georgina and Eloise burst into laughter once I said ‘Zambies’ they got the reference, it’s just a shame that the person that had originally said that my not be among the living, well more like living dead.
“Did you say ‘zambie’?” Joe and Ryan asked simultaneously, confusion littering their voices. I just nodded and carried on walking with my friends. I think this journey won’t be as bad as I thought.
Alan’s P.O.V
I don’t think this journey could get any worse. Everyone was moaning at me and I couldn’t shut them up. I promised them that we would rest at night, the sun was nowhere near setting, we could get somewhere safe and far away from this place.
“Alan, come on. Just stop” Rachel S said, she wouldn’t stop complaining. Why would she not shut up? This journey would be that little more bearable if I didn’t have the women moaning in my ear, 24/7.
“Tonight” I growled, god why won’t they just shut up? To be honest I wanted to punch her in the face and hope that that’ll shut her up or at least leave us alone.
We carried on walking down an abandoned road, nothing was insight but that didn’t stop us from being that little bit more cautious. A load growl caught my attention, a lump formed in my throat as the noise became louder and it was in different pitches.
I turned multiple times on my heals, looking in all directions. A group of ten figures caught my attention, half of them were stumbling along whilst the other crept quietly closer. Either they were other survivors or a new type of zombie I had yet to meet.
As the group forever got closer, my breaths became shorter and more frequent and my heart rate was through the roof. It was one thing helping someone else out but another being in the situation where you are the victim. “Get ready guys” I said quietly, raising a large branch I had come across whilst reaching this point. I closed my eyes for a brief moment but it was just a moment too long. I was knocked off my feet by a zombie, I pushed at the creature making sure to keep my arms and legs away from its grips.
My grip tightened around the branch and luckily it came in contact with the rotting corpse’s head as it swung up. I didn’t hesitate to stand and hit it again and the sight was just as disgusting as its face. Blood and brains fell from the massive wound on the side of its head. I tried not to gag at the sight of it all, it was horrific and made me feel uneasy.
A scream filled my ears. I turned to face the source and instantly the sound stopped as rotting teeth were dug deep into the throat of Rachel S. I ran over to it to try and pry it off of the defenceless girl but it was useless, she had already bled out and the zombie was just feasting on the flesh remaining. Oh great, another death to dig at my sub conscious, fun. The one up side to this all is that I won’t be constantly moaned at, but that really isn’t the point.
The zombie was still alive and there was still a chance that Rachel might turn. I hesitated on the choice to run but that wouldn’t be the right thing to do. I looked around for something to dig into her skull, enough to reach the brain but I found nothing. I knelt down for a second just as an arrow whizzed past my ear, hitting both the zombie and Rachel through the head.
We aren’t alone.
