"Run" My voice barely rose above a whisper as we jogged through the tunnels. My Intangible and I struggled through the obstacles by holding the weight of another. Vines hung from the ceilings trying to ring our necks and roots moved to trip our every step. Dirt fell from the walls into my eyes due to the pressure of people running over the dirt over our heads. The only light was from rabbit holes or glowing worms that creped through the ground.
As we ran through the tunnel, my aching body could only take so much with the jolt of my harsh steps and push of Leegan's weight on my shoulder. My Intangible had to jog behind me to press his palm to my back when I would subconsciously slow down. The jolt of his touch me would make me speed up. He mostly stayed silent as we ran to be able to properly balance Dream in his arms. She still had yet to reveal herself to the outside.
The map of the Warrior tunnels moved in my head as I ran. I kept my eyes closed while I ran to picture where exactly I was going. If I didn't close my eyes, I would be lost in unknown darkness. Leegan was unnerved as we ran because he was not used to closing his eyes to navigate. His better judgment was telling him to fight with me to figure out exactly where he was located. I had to squeeze him arm a couple times to show him we were about to turn.
I could feel the heat of battle before I saw it. Leegan let out a breath of pain and happiness to be out of the tunnels. I could feel the ground getting soft from the stream of water we were about to run through. What we weren't expecting to see were guards waiting for us. I threw my arm out and stopped my Intangible. He stumbled into me before giving me a confused look. He was still in the darkness of the tunnels and was unable to see as far as I could.
I could see the water coming from the wall and metal gate. I pushed Leegan towards my Intangible, but not close enough to touch and unsheathed my sword. My Intangible tried to stop me, but I shook him off. "You have a job of watching over Dream. Protect her please. I will only be a moment," With that I walked out of the cave and through the thick layer of smoke from the burning forest behind me.
I lifted the sword and swung it loosely in my grip. The guards looked at me in challenge before walking towards me. "Would you look at that, a real live princess" the woman on the left taunted. Her wings were sharpened with armor on the tips. Her outfit was made of a strong armor, much like the second, male guard.
I took calculated steps forwards with my sword lifted right as the woman let out a rush of her fiery breath. My feet danced out of the way as I rushed forwards and met the woman halfway. She twisted in a circle, throwing her sharpened wings towards my neck, but the rush of wind caused my body to duck and spin with the creature. She left her shoulder open, resulting with my blade cutting through her skin. She let out a hissing scream as I took a step back. I prepared to attack again, but the male wrapped his tale around my ankle and pulled me to the ground. I pulled my head forwards as the woman's wing slicing through the ground. Her faulted step trying to pull her wing from the ground gave me way to her stomach. I threw my sword and cringed as it hit its target. The female crumpled to the ground and the male let out a roar of anger.
The tail around my ankle pulled my forwards, so I brought on my sword down on the scales. The male fell over me in pain and opened his mouth to reveal his razor sharp teeth to rip through the delicate skin on my neck. I reached up and wrapped my hands neck as his teeth scratched over my arm and collar bone. I screamed from the blood drawn and tightened my hold over his neck as he began to bite into my neck. He looked as though he were about to collapse, but I didn't loosen my hold. He growled in pain and lifted his head trying to get air. Soon enough his struggle stopped and I knew he was gone. I threw him off of me to take in a breath. Tears rolled down my cheeks from the pain on my neck and shoulder, but I knew I needed to continue.
