The day went by quickly, more swiftly than I was anticipating, but I was glad nonetheless. Especially when Ashton came to drop off my house keys.

"Hey babe," Ashton surprises me as he pecks my cheek, his hands landing on my shoulders. I jump slightly, turning my head to look up at him.

"Who let you come into the break room?" I ask, he didn't know where it was.

"I did." Nathan responds walking up from behind him, taking a seat next to me, his pulls a sub from his bag.

Ashton takes it upon himself to get comfortable right next to me, his hand landing on my thigh.

"How's it going man? The new house nice?" Nathan makes small talk with Ashton and he smiles back.

"It's good, new job and new place. Now it's just getting completely settled in, which isn't hard, it just takes time for the place to be ours ours, you know?" Ashton says with a smile on his face.

I turn to Nathan to see him nodding, his mouth full of food. "I agree." He says muffled through his full mouth and his hand.

"Your going to work?" I decide to ask Ashton, I didn't want to keep him here if he had to go to work.

"Yeah, I start in an hour." Ashton says and I nod, stirring my chicken noodle soup I brought for lunch.

"I'll let you guys eat though, it's about a 35 minute drive anyways." Ashton adds, standing up. I nod, blushing as he leans down to peck my lips.

"See you later, it was nice seeing you Nathan." Ashton says patting Nathan's shoulder.

Nathan lifts his head up from his food and nods, lifting his thumb up as a 'me too'.

After lunch I had went back to work, wanting to get as much work done as I could. I felt the need to transcend my usual daily post goals. Plus I felt like that would make Nathan happy, he needed some good news today.

There's a knock on my door and I furrow my eyebrows at the sound, who was that? Maybe Nathan? It couldn't be Ashton, he left an hour and a half ago.

"Come in!" I say loud enough for the other person to hear, they do, opening the door and stepping in.

It's my brother.

For some reason his presence makes me stand, my hands rubbing against my thighs nervously.

"What are you doing here?" I ask.

He chuckles, running a hand through his hair as he looks around my office. "I don't get a 'hey bro! haven't seen you in a while!'?" He jokes, at least I think.

"Um, okay, hey bro... Haven't seen you since Ashton and I went over there for a weekend, what are you doing here?" I say as monotone as I can. It's not that I completely hated him, I just kind of forget I even had a brother so I don't really feel much emotion right now.

He chuckles again, finally taking a seat in front of my desk, I decide to sit down too.

"So this is were you work." He says still looking around the small office, his eyes land on a picture of me and Ashton and I look at it too.

It's from when we went to the beach, I'm kissing his cheek. I printed it out as soon as I got my office and the picture frame.

"How are you guys?" My brother asks me and I sigh, deciding instead of asking him again what he's doing here, I might as catch up with him.

"Great," I breathe out, "just bought a house." I decide to add. My brother turns to me, his eyebrows pulled together in confusion.

"A house? You guys bought a fucking house." He says and I nod.

"Yeah." I shrug, it's not like my brother can boss me around and tell me I can't. I'm my own person.

"You guys haven't even been dating a year! That's fucking crazy! Are you even sure he's the one?" My brother freaks out before me and I sigh.

"Okay, let's get a few things straight. One, we'll be a year in 3 months. Two, you don't know half the shit we've been through and three, he is most definitely the one." I say counting on my fingers for dramatic effect.

My brother shakes his head at me, rubbing his forehead. "Besides, your the last person I would ever listen to." I add just to get a jab at him.

"That's a bit harsh." He says and I shrug. Might as well hurt him while she down, him and Stephanie did that to me my whole life growing up.

"Why are you here?" I ask again and hopefully for the last time. I needed to be working.

He opens his mouth to speak but I hold my hand up, shaking my head. I didn't actually want to hear what he was going to say. I didn't need to hear about stuff that doesn't effect me anymore.

"If it has something to do with Stephanie, I don't want to hear it." I tell him before he can speak.

"Are you sur-"

"I don't, why should I give a damn about her? She didn't and doesn't for me." I argue and he sighs, scratching the back of his neck.

"But it's important." He pleads.

"Anything dealing with her is unimportant to me." I tell him, standing up and hoping he gets the hint that the conversation is over.

He sighs, his teeth nipping nervously at his fingernails. "I really feel like you should know about this." He says following me as I walk towards my door.

"You don't know what's good for me." I mutter, placing my hand on the doorknob.

My brother sighs again, grabbing my shoulder. "Promise me you'll keep in touch with me, your all I got left." He mumbles and I gulp. All he's got? He has Stephanie and her family and his friends.

I open my mouth to respond but then close it again. Do I agree or do I not? I was doing fine without contacting him but maybe I need him...

"Promise me." He pleads and I let out a shaky breath.

"I can't promise that." I whisper and he nods, his jaw tightening but he doesn't say anything else as he opens the door himself.

"Just promise me you'll respond to my messages." He tries again and I nod, not wanting to disappoint him anymore.

"Bye, Kat." He says and I nod once again, where did my voice go?

"Bye." I croak out, closing the door once he's out my sight.

I lean against my door for the second time today, shutting my eyes as I let out another breath.

This only reminds me of the time Stephanie stopped by my office, way back when. She came wanting to tell me something but left without saying anything about it.

And now my brother did the exact same thing, except I was the one to not want to hear about it. And I'm going to continue to tell myself that I don't, why did I need to hear what she had to say anyways? It was probably bullshit anyways.
