By the time I'm home, my excitedness has died down - due to the traffic I was in minutes before. When I walk in the house, Maxie runs up to me, clawing my pants excitedly like she usually does when I get home. I pet her quickly, walking towards my bedroom to put my bag away.
I toss my shoes off, picking them up with my hands afterwards and placing them back in mine and Ashton's closet, I was a bit of a neat freak when it came to our closet - I liked everything in a specific spot.
He was still learning that, seeing that I'd have to move his shoes and put them back where they belonged.
I grab my phone and walk back into my living room, crashing on our couch that was being occupied by Ben. Our first brand new couch and we had someone sleeping on it, unbelievable.
I let out a yawn as I scroll on my phone, Maxie joins me seconds later, jumping on me and laying across my torso.
"Let's see what your father is up to at work." I talk to Maxie as if she could understand me, I dial up Ashton's number.
He answers on the third ring.
"Hey babe." He says.
"Hey," I respond uneasily, don't bring anything up my conscious reminds me, "how's work?" I ask instead.
"Busy, we've had too failed trucks today so now we're being pushed back and it's only going to cause tomorrow's loads to be pushed back as well. We're fucked basically." He says with a sigh, I can only imagine what he has to go through on a daily basis.
"Oh that sucks, what does that mean for you?" I ask.
He sighs, "I'm probably going to have to do overtime sometime this week. Might do it tomorrow and the day after."
"Oh." I reply, quite frankly I didn't know what to say.
"Is something wrong?" He asks quietly, almost worriedly. Did Ben tell him that I knew his secrets? Probably.
Don't bring anything up, it's for the better.
"No, no - just sucks that you'll be missing out on dinner for the next two days..." I tell him, atleast I wasn't lying.
"Yeah I know, but the more overtime I do the better because then we'll be on track and I'll get a bonus." He joked and I can't help but smile.
"Your coming home for dinner right?" I ask.
"Yup, Ben and I will be home at 6." He says and I can picture his smile already.
"Alright, we'll get back to work - sounds like you got a lot of shit to do." I joke, sinking my teeth into my lip to stop from smiling so hard.
"Indeed I do, see you at home, love you."
"Love you too, see you later."
With that the call ended and I still had two hours to spare. I scroll down my contact list, looking at the names of people I rarely ever talked to. Only a few people in my recents.
Ashton.
Lewis.
Jesse.
