APOLLO POV.
I wake up to the sound of cracking and gurgling.
I look at my egg.
It's rocking, and peices are falling off.
I stand up slowly, carefully.
I walk to the long side of the table, and steady the egg.
A talon touches my left hand.
I look down and gasp.
A foot like those strange birds is touching my hand.
It paws at me, then grabs my finger.
I smile.
A small nose appears next. Small, elegant, proud.
Then, in a flash, the egg is replaced by a beautiful beast unlike I've ever seen.
I touch it's gentle face, and a simple warm feeling enters my heart. A mark appears on my left hand. A half heart. The other half is on its' left forpaw
Kalo enters with Lance by his side.
I stroke the elegant form of the dragon in front of me.
It's white body shines like ice. It's wings remind me of a clear sheet of ice. It's eyes are ice blue, kind, and curious.
Lance cries, "Apollo! Congrats!"
Kalo approaches me and the dragon.
He examines it, and announces, "It's a female Winter dragon."
I stroke my Winter dragon. It's the size of a housecat.
Her scales are like fresh snow. Her tail is like a perfectly straight white icicle.
I whisper, "Pandora. Because I went through a lot of trouble for her."
Pandora flexes her beautiful wings.
Pandora sniffs me, and hops into my arms.
She's suprisingly light, so I carry her around while I follow Kalo.
Kalo scribbles on an ancient scroll.
A long list of names is on the scroll. Mine is added to the bottom, along with Pandora's.
I ask, "What's that scroll for?"
Kalo looks at me with a questioning look, and asks, "What do they teach you? This is the scroll of all the riders ever discovered."
I stroke Pandora as I read off some of the names. There must've been over a hundred.
Getting sidetracked, I ask, "How big will Pandora get?"
Kalo laughs, "I have no good estimate for you, Apollo. You'll need to find the last known teacher of the riders for any more info."
I ask, "Where are they?"
Kalo replies mystified and quiet, "Pandora will take you when she's old enough to fly. She may need your help with communication, but otherwise she'll lead you right to him. I know a little about common dragons, but not ones like Pandora. I'm sorry, Apollo."
I ask, "How long until she can fly longer distances?"
Lance replies while raising and shaking his hand eagerly, "Four weeks!"
I pat Pandora, and she purrs like a housecat.
Kalo, Lance, and I burst out laughing at the sound of her enthusiastic purrs.
Kalo whispers, "Did you recieve the secoundary mark?"
I show him the back of my hand, and Pandora's paw.
Kalo smiles, "Your bond is stronger than most at first. Treasure her, for she treasures you. If you feel pain, so does she. If you feel angry, so does she. You are one being. Remember this, for it will most definitely save your lives."
Pandora reaches up, and stares at me with her beautiful blue eyes.
We stare at each other for a while.
Kalo interupts our deep stare with a message, "Your dad should know about Pandora. Keeping her secret like the mark will only make you more trouble. Now, go tell him!"
I set Pandora down, and she pads after me.
When we reach the stairs I pick Pandora up.
I carry her down the stairs, until I bump into my father.
He cries, "What is that beast?"
I cover where I assume Pandora's ears are.
I growl, "She is a dragon. Her name is Pandora."
My father bellows, "No! I won't permit you to keep that thing!"
I present the secoundary marks, and my father suddenly understands what I mean.
He glares at me, then screams, "Kalo! Get down here!"
Kalo trots down, robes flying.
Kalo asks cheerily, "What my king?"
Father snarls, "Why did you not sense Apollo was a beast rider?"
Kalo shrugs, and replies, "Pandoras' egg may not've been laid yet. Only once both dragon and rider are in the world can they be sensed. The scar is the only clue. Although, it's usually not on the forehead... anyway, Pandora and Apollo have a strong bond, and will be leaving in four weeks."
Dad stands in shock, then whispers tensely, "Room, Apollo."
