Cassie POV -July 1st-
Niall strummed on the guitar in his pale hands, trying to find a tune he liked, as the other four set chatting. We were sitting in Li's living room, Liam, Zayn, and I sat on the couch, while Louis was leaned against the wall in the floor, and Niall and Harry both sat in the chairs, guitar in both of their hands. Harry began to play, just a small melody, and then he pouted a little and muttered to himself, "No thats not right," and he tried again, grinning to himself as he got it right. I felt a pain in my heart at the sight, the familiarity of it. He reminded me so much of him, his care free attitude, laid back nature, cheeky grin, all of it. Maybe it was just because i was having a hard day that I was realizing the similarities between the two, but either way I felt the tears sting at my eyes. I knew i shouldnt have came today, but i never really can say no to Liam Payne, I mean come on he looks like a puppy naturally, imagine when he's trying. I took a deep breath, and closed my eyes, trying to go unnoticed by the occupied boys and blink away my tears. Harry began to hum, and that was it. I stood and quickly told them that i was going to go to the bathroom, to which four of five nodded to absentmindedly, but Liam's brown eyes watching my every move didnt go unnoticed in the Cassie really wasnt being herself today, she was quiet and seemed preoccupied by her own thoughts, and I really didnt want to bother her by trying to make conversation. She was slumped on the couch to my right, and as we all talked and joked she seemed to become more tense by the second. Suddenly she stood, and all attention turned to her. She kept her head down, her round face shielded by the chocolate brown waves of her hair, aslightest.
Liam POV
nd muttered something about the bathroom. The other boys returned to their conversations, not giving it a second thought, but as I saw trail up the stairs, her feet dragging, I caught sight of the most heartbreaking defeated expression. I bit my lip, debating on what I should do. Deciding she might need a moment to herself, I stayed where i was, but I wasnt comfortable with the idea of her hurting alone. I waited about ten minutes, before I couldnt stand the worry. "Guys, I dont think Cassie's feeling well.." Zayn nodded in understanding, "Let's go guys. You just worry about taking care of her alright?" He asked, his brown eyes filled with concern. "Okay, thanks boys." I gave each of them a hug, and one by one they piled out the door, leaving with 'I love you's. Once the door was shut behind them, the house was eerily quiet. I quietly made my way up the stairs, and noticed the guest room door was slightly cracked open. I lightly pushed the door open, the room was dark and I could just make out Cassie's figure under the covers. I started to think she was asleep, but by her heavy breathing I could tell that wasnt the case. I wasnt sure what to do or say at first as I leaned against the door way, but finally I softly informed her, "The boys left." I got no response, she didnt move from her position with her back facing me. It was silent in the black room, I sighed, "They said bye." I was still left in silence. I shuffled closer to the bed, leaning and turning on the bedside lamp, before sitting beside her lying body. Hestitantly, I reached my hand out to her, and began to lightly pet her head, running my hands through her hair comfortingly. "Cassie, Love, whats wrong?" I whispered, and although i got no reply, she let out a shaky breath. I was honestly scared, because i didnt know what it could possibly be, and she was so tore up. "Please look at me," I begged, my own voice quivering, "Please.." I whispered desperately, and at first she stayed in the same position and it was completely quiet. Finally, however, she rolled onto her back to look at me, and my heart dropped to the floor and broke. Her pale face was red from crying, tear tracks left down her cheeks, with more still traveling the path. Her lip quivered and shook as she tried to hold in sobs, her hair was a mess, but somehow all of this wasnt what caught my attention.
Her eyes were red and irritated and more tears were building at the bottom of her eye lid, but what got to me was the eyes themselves. They werent the bright green i had acustomed to, that came with fond looks and a sweet smile, but instead the same cold grey/green color they were when we first met, when she had her walls up. They seemed lifeless, staring at me with hidden pain inside of them. She looked so vulnerable, so...broken laying there with the comforter over her shoulders, and arms wrapped around herself. I pushed a piece of wet hair from her cheek, and i couldnt keep the pang of hurt from showing on my face as she cringed away from me. Her face shoed no emotion, and the only think that hinted at the pain she was feeling was the tears that poured. "Go away, Liam." She said, her voice shaking a tear resting itself on the bridge of her nose. Her words hurt, but I wasnt shaken, so I just stared at her, "Liam." She stated coldly, her voice stronger and unshaking, "Leave." I saw the anger in her eyes, anger and pain. I shook my head, "You know i wont." I whispered, and a flicker of some emotion i couldnt catch flashed through the cold green of her eyes, and diminished in a second, the anger going with it, so that only the raw hurt she was feeling showed, "Please," She begged softly, a sob ripping from her throat. "I cant." I whispered, wiping a tear from the pale blood rushed cheek, and to my relief she didnt cringe, "Why?" She asked, looking away, her voice weak and unsure. "You know why." I muttered, tears pooling into my own eyes as her shoulders shook and her eyes squeezed shut. I found myself scooting closer, laying down beside her. My warm arms wrapping around her waist, pulling her into my chest protectively as I pushed her tear soacked hair from her face, and gently wiping away the salty liquid that spilled from her eyes, as she looked up at me, no longer guarded, just in pain. "Shh now," I cooed, and she buried her head in my chest, her sobs rocking both of our bodies. I pondered as she cried, with each sob my arms wrapping tighter around our form, on whether or not I was passing the line of friendship by holding her like this. I didnt care either way, because she needed comfort, and I knew i wouldnt let anyone else do it. I lightly placed kisses to the top of her head and temples as she calmed down, her body going somewhat limp from exhaustion. When all was silent I broke it with the question that had been running through my thoughts, "What's wrong? Please tell me.." She looked up at me, her eyelashes stuck together and wet, and her eyes drooping from exhaustion, "Someday, LiLi, someday." She whispered, before closing her eyes and laying her head back on my chest, causing my heart to race. It was quiet for about 5 minutes when i realized she was dead asleep, my arms wrapped around her waist, and her head resting on my had chest. Her breathing was even, and although i sound like Edward Cullen, i had to admit she was quite adorable as i watched her sleep. For once, she looked completely at peace. I reached to turn off the lamp on the table, as i settled in next to her, falling into a deep sleep knowing she was safe.
