Chapter 24 : the problem and the plan

Alex pov:

I opened my eyes lazily. Izzy was curled up beside me under the covers, her head resting against my shoulder. I hadn't remembered either of us falling asleep but apparently we had. I kissed her forehead and she smiled. "Sleep well?" I asked her. "Mmmmm" she purred beside me. I leaned in to kiss her but suddenly a shrill warning went off. It was my comm device on the bedside table. I scrambled halfway out of the covers and grabbed it. I answered it and heard max's voice. "Hello? Alex are you there?" Max asked frantically. "Yes I'm here. Izzy's with me." I answered. He sighed in relief. Someone said something in the background. "Listen I don't have much time and there's a lot to explain so listen carefully." He said. "Okay what's going on." I asked him. "Me and Cameron got out. I had a friend in Nevada. We're at his house. The virus that Phoenix planted in our mainframe was a two way thing, meaning we were able to get into the their systems and we found something big. It started months ago, like I thought. They were planning something big. They were gathering hackers. From everywhere. They're planning on hacking the orbital weapons station." He let that sink in. I had heard about it. A giant floating missile ship. Capable of leveling a city twice over. "Their attack is in three days. They're going to crash the militaries Internet and security systems and then take control of the platform. They're going to hit New York but here's the kicker. They're using Russian back channels. When the military reboots its systems, they'll find Russia all over it. They're going to start world war 3 and it's going to be started in New York. They took us out or tried to that is to make sure you couldn't stop it. You're the only one who can. And I have a plan. My friend is a hacker. He's good but he can't stop Phoenix. This is how we have to do it. You and Izzy need to head to New York and meet him there. Along the way you have to stop by Lucian greymark house. You have to steal his computer. We'll need evidence. Then you'll meet him there. You and him will go to the top of the Empire State Building. There's a hidden antenna at the top. He'll hack into it and take back the weapons platform. But it will take time. Seven minutes to be precise. During that time it will rain fire down onto New York. That's where you come in. You have to stop the rockets. The military has defense around the city after 9/11 but with the militaries systems down they'll be useless. You'll have to use your powers to stop them. The orbital system fires m6 cluster missiles at one every thirty seconds. Each one has can kill thousands. You have to stop them. And you have to leave tonight. Which reminds me. Where are you? Do you have a car?" He asked. I was speechless. Too much information too fast.

Phoenix attacking New York. Had to stop them. "I'm in San Diego and I can get a car." I stuttered to him. "Good leave as soon as possible. I'll send you coordinates to this safe house. We'll be gone but we'll leave you cash and some weapons. I'll contact you tomorrow. Good luck Alex. Tell Isabelle I love her" and then he hung up. I literally dropped the tiny device. I was dimly aware of Izzy shaking me. I snapped back to attention. We had to leave now. I jumped out of the bed and pulled on my discarded clothing. "Alex what the hell is going on?" She shouted at me as she got up pulled on her bra and panties. I explained everything I had heard to her. I told her the plan and as we both got dressed. "What in the actual fuck?!" She practically screamed at me as I opened the door. I heard the front door open downstairs. Perfect timing. "I don't know Izzy but we need to leave." I told her and started going downstairs to meet our hosts. "Liam. Somethings happened. Me and Izzy need to leave now. Do you have a car we can uh borrow?" I asked him. It was a lot to ask. He had risked his neck to help me and Izzy already. He looked at me with a questioning look and slowly nodded. "Yeah you can take the suv. What do you need it for?" He asked me. Where to start? "To save New York. I don't have time to explain." I said. He nodded. "Ok. There's one thing you should know though. The president has issued a nationwide manhunt for you two. He's offering $500,000 for your captures." Liam told me. Great just another thing to slow us down.
