Isabelle pov:I woke up feeling excited. I don't even know why, after all I was just going to talk to him it's not like anything big was going on. But still I was excited. I put on my jeans and hoodie deciding to go on a walk before I went to see him. I made my way out of headquarters. As I opened the main doors the salty mist from the waves hit me. I loved that headquarters was on the beach. I started mindlessly while walking ,thinking about what Alex would say. It was a breezy day, not cold but not hot either. Perfect in my opinion. Off in the distance the skyline of San Francisco gleamed in the midday sunlight. What it must be like to live in a city so close to the "terrorist" headquarters without even knowing it. Then again if they ever looked over here they would just see a barren beach.
Max had stolen an advanced prototype cloaking device from the military and had the techs at HQ modify to hide our entire base. It was ingenious really. It cloaked the appearance, sounds even the vehicles. The sun was almost at its midday position as I left the cloaks influence. I felt the icy feeling as I left it and turned around. Nothing. If I hadn't been right outside the cloak I probably would've gotten lost. I turned back and went through the cloak back to HQ. Suddenly the giant low triangle of HQ came into focus with the guard tower right in the middle and the airfield to the west side. I started back to the main building. When I got back the usually noon activity was going on, people scurrying about for their different jobs. I went back inside relishing the cool air to that hot dry outside.
I made my way to the infirmary to talk to Alex, still feeling a bit nervous. When I got in his room he looked terrible. It looked like he hadn't gotten any sleep whatsoever, and he was looking around as if expecting an attack any second. He said hey once he saw me. I said hi back awkwardly and started telling him the story about Apex and us until finally I gave him the choice. He thought long and hard. His facial expression changing from intense thought to eventually happiness or so it looked like. "I'm in" he said his voice sheepish. "Good I'll tell Cameron and max. I'll have Cameron get you some clothes. The doctor says you can leave the infirmary tomorrow and I'll come by and pick you up and give you a tour" I said . "Can I ask you something?" He inquired his brown hair just barely coming down to his eyes hid his expression. "Sure ask away" I replied wondering what he was wondering about. "What abilities do you have? And what about me?" He asked. "Well no one has been know to have more than one class of abilities but I am a medic. And you are a reader but when I broke you out you stopped us from dying with the abilities of a mover. How did you do it?" I replied and asked him. "I don't know. I just thought that I didn't want to die like that and I thought of the car stopping before we splattered. And it did." He replied his expression now was blank. What it must've been like ,to be able to reshape the world around you like he could, with just a thought. "Hmm alright well I guess I'll see you tomorrow" I said as I turned to leave. "Wait, wait please don't go" he suddenly asked it almost sounded like a beg. Then I looked at his eyes. They were pleading. Every Time I looked at him all I saw was walls, defenses guarding the damaged person inside, this time there was no defense. "I mean uh it's just uh I i get bored just laying here" he said trying to hide the obvious lie. "Oh ok sure I'll stay" I said feeling the smile spread on my face. "So uh what do you want to talk about" I asked awkwardly. I had never really talked to guys before. Much less ever felt like I was wanted by one. "I I don't know uh what's your favorite color?" He asked. I laughed. The smallest of smiles spread across his face. I had never seen him smile before. "It's purple but not dark purple a nice gentle one. What's yours?" I replied stifling my giggles. "Teal but a light bluish teal " he replied. "Ok well tell me about yourself" I asked him. "What's to tell? I mean I was normal until a month ago. I was a straight A student, I already had a scholarship for college set up. I got it from playing piano. I still lived with my parents. I had a girlfriend but she she didn't really handle me telling her about my abilities that well. I think she's the one that ratted me out." He said. His expression pained again. "That bitch" I said astonished. "How could she do that to you if she loved you" I asked furious that some dumb girl turned him in and subjected him to all this torture. When he didn't answer I started talking again. "Well I uh was kinda the same I had all A's and B's but I didn't really have any friends. I lived with my uncle max. My parents died when I was young. Anyway when I was 12 I found out about my ability and so did my uncle so he showed me this place." I told him. "So your uncle is the same Sargent who started apex?" He asked. I nodded. "Yeah. I started training, and learning how to harness my ability. I started going on supply raids and eventually started going on break out ops. I was always sent because I'm the best medic here and sometimes the kids we broke out needed me. Like you. But you're different. I can't do it on you. It's like you have a shield." I said. He was staring off now a pained expression on his face. "But anyway I never dated, never-" I was cut off by Alex "seriously? You never dated?" He asked surprised. "No. No one was really interested in me and I never talked to anyone." I said, nervous all of the sudden again." Sorry it's just, well uh I mean with you being uh, nevermind. " he said throwing up his defenses again and blushing. I felt myself blush as well.
