Alex pov:The lights flickered on and off. "That building crashing must've fucked with the power." Marcus said as the elevator lurched and continued down. Once we got to the 9th floor the elevator stopped, opened its doors, and then powered off. We stepped out. The lights were dim and some of them weren't even on. We walked down a hallway until we got into an office like area. Then I saw what the problem was. The office area was next to the Windows on the side of the building, although you could only see out of the very far left ones. Directly in front of us was the crashed building. It had collided sideways into this building and on this floor it had partial merged with this one. You could see into one of the other floors of the other one. Hell if we wanted we could've walked over. "Jesus Christ." Marcus whispered. It was dark but I could see clearly and I was glad to see there were no bodies in sight. Then I heard one of the last voices I ever wanted to hear.
"You know the good dr said you heal faster. In fact it's your blood that healed me. But I wonder what a 9 story fall would do to you." I heard Daniel graymark say from behind me. I turned around but I was too late. He was charging at me and as I turned he tackled my midsection and the force slammed us both backward against one of the cracked Windows that wasn't blocked by the building. Time slowed down as I heard and felt the window shatter behind us and we went into freefall. Graymark was on top of me smiling. Right before we hit the ground my right leg moved under me and I tensed up hoping that it would help. We hit the ground. My head slammed into the asphalt and my leg cracked under me and all at the same time the breath was taken out of me from gray marks weight. My vision splashed white and I couldn't think for a second. Then all my senses rushed back in. I screamed from the agonizing pain in my leg and the throbbing in my head intensified.
"Damn kid, I didn't think you'd survive. Which means I'll be the one that actually gets to kill you." He said and pulled a knife from a sheath at his side. I was completely defenseless against him. My limbs felt like jelly except for my leg which felt as if it were dipped in lava and I could feel a tiny puddle of warm liquid underneath my head. He raised the knife when suddenly a man appeared out of nowhere and literally kicked him off me. It was Marcus. Then Izzy appeared and helped me up. As I stood and put weight on my leg I screamed in agony and the pain almost made me black out. I opened my eyes to see Marcus leaning over graymark punching him repeatedly in the jaw. Once his face was covered in blood he got up and wiped his hand off on his jeans. "I think his leg is broken." I heard Izzy say worriedly beside me. I heard the roar of jets once more, somewhere in the distance. Marcus cast one more look on gray marks unconscious body and then turned towards us. "He doesn't look good. Sit him down. I have to go get my laptop." He said and walked back to the building. I realized it wasn't raining anymore but it was still dark out. "Alex here sit down." Izzy said and helped me sit down on the sidewalk.
My legged moved and I stifled a scream. "Sorry sorry." Izzy said. She went into the middle of the street and raised her phone as if trying to get a signal. I noticed graymark getting up and raising the knife to walk up behind her. Adrenaline shot through me. I jumped up to intercept him. "Izzy watch out!" I shouted at her and she turned around but it was too late. He raised the knife as if to stab her. I used my power to hurtle me forward in between them. Within a fraction of a second I was between them. Somehow graymark noticed and smiled as he saw it. There was no dodging the knife. I felt it stab into my chest when it scraped against my rib graymark shot one of his hands behind me and leaned into the blade. I felt my rib crack against it and the knife went hilt deep into my chest. At first I was too shocked to notice the pain. I dumbly looked down at the knife and opened my mouth.
Blood coated my throat. A gunshot rang out and I saw gray marks chest explode in red mist. He fell and I saw a police officer holding a gun behind him. When he saw me his eyes went wide. The pain rushed in. I fell backwards onto the ground. The pain was so intense I couldn't even scream. "Alex!!" I heard Izzy scream beside me. But everything was fading fast. My vision blackened and my hearing went out. Nothing else existed anymore. Nothing but pain. And it followed me into the darkness.
Isabelle pov:
Alex slumped to the ground in front of me with the hilt of a knife still sticking out of his chest. "Alex!" I screamed and went to my knees beside him. Tears were falling freely from my eyes. Alex was pale and his leg was twisted in an odd angle. Blood pooled underneath him and was slowly dripping from his mouth and nose. The police officer rushed over. He opened his mouth to say something but I screamed at him. "Go get fucking help!" He turned on his heel and ran in the other direction. Marcus rushed out out of the building. "What the fuck happened?!" He shouted as he came up beside and looked at Alex. Suddenly there was an explosion behind us from the collapsed building.
Glass and debris rained down around us. I leaned over Alex to shield him when something heavy slammed into my ankle. I could also feel all the cuts on my arms from the glass. I screamed and looked behind. A huge piece of concrete was crushing my left ankle. I pushed it off and looked back ahead. There was an a ambulance racing towards us with its sirens wailing. They pulled up in front of us and two paramedics jumped out of the back with a stretcher. "What happened?" One of them asked as they both carefully lifted Alex on the stretcher. He was bleeding fast and there was a gash next to his eye. "He was stabbed and he fell from the ninth floor." I said in between sobs. I couldn't control my breathing. "Yeah, we've got a teenage boy, broken leg, stab wound to the chest, possible lung punctures and multiple other injuries. We're bringing him in, get a operating room ready" one of them said as they moved the stretcher inside the ambulance. I climbed in with them and they didn't try to stop me. They shut the doors and the ambulance started speeding away.
They wasted no time and stuck an I.V into his arm. They turned his head on its side and blood slowly poured out of his mouth, staining the white stretcher. "We've got a pulse but it's weak. His breathing's labored. I think he drowning in his own blood." One of them said. I just focused on holding his hand. Blood was starting to soak his shirt turning the blue fabric to a dark black. "He's losing too much blood. Get me a coagulant." One of them shouted at the other. The other turned and rummaged through some drawers. I focused on Alex. I tried using my power on him, to stop the blood. But I was blocked by his shield. I screamed in my head in frustration. I threw all of my strength against it. As it started to budge I heard a constant beep sound. "Shit he's flatlining. Get ready for de-fib" one of them shouted. Then the barrier broke against me. But It was like punching through flexible glass, once I broke through sharp pointed ends clawed at my head. I pushed the pain aside and made the bleeding stop and forced his heart to beat. "Never mind he's good. We're almost there. Miss are you ok?" One of them asked. I didn't answer. I was too focused on the task at hand. Keeping Alex alive was rapidly draining my strength. The more I kept him alive the worse the pain in my head and ankle got. Soon my limbs turned to jelly. No, I can't stop. Alex will die. I opened my eyes as I felt the ambulance back up. But something was wrong. I was looking down a tunnel. I felt myself slipping out of Alex's mind. My powers failed and I passed out.
