Your parents were, once again, intoxicated and fighting. Your father was stomping heavily around the house while you could hear your moms quiet running. You were almost sure that she was running from him. He had just finished yelling slurred words that you weren't able to make out. But, they were most likely insults directed at your mother. You sighed. You heard a loud crash come from the kitchen and you jumped. A shiver was sent through your body so you got up and walked towards your door. You opened it and walked towards the staircase. You peaked down to look into the kitchen to see your mother on the ground with a broken chair laying beside her. Your father turned around and smirked at you. Your eyes widened and you ran towards your room. You entered and slammed the door behind you. You knew this wouldn't protect you, it almost never does. You could hear his heavy footsteps nearing the door and you started breathing heavily. You hid in your closet and looked out the small crack. Your father had just busted into the room and was bound to find you in a short notice. You started trembling and you tried to quiet the sobs that were sure to come any second now. Making any sudden noise would give away your hiding spot, even if he would find it soon. You wanted to make the time last. You had a few more seconds until the doors were yanked open by your father. The strong smell of alcohol filled your nostrils and you cringed. You looked down and you were aware of what was to come next. Your father chuckled and said, "Trying to hide again, are we (y/n)? Maybe you should pick a better place next time. This one sucks... Maybe I should punish you for it." He chuckled again and grabbed ahold of your hair. He pulled you out of the closet. He pushed you against your bed and punched you in the eye. This made you fall onto the floor. Then, following his former beating, he kicked your stomach and ribs a few times. You rolled over in hopes of him stopping, only for him to kick you a few times in the back. He laughed and pulled your face over so you were facing him. "You're useless." He said, pushing your face away and walking out of your room, slamming the door behind him. You curled up into a ball and you whimpered at the pain that it brought you. You decided something. You needed someone. You needed your girlfriend, Amber, who was unaware of your at home life. Sure, you had been together for a few months now, but you were extremely embarrassed to even think about telling someone about your daily life at home. She had questioned the occasional bruises and scratches that the makeup failed to cover, but you always had an excuse.
You picked up your phone and dialed Amber's number. You were still crying a bit, but more from the pain rather than fear now. But, you had to admit that you still were terrified. After a few rings, Amber picked up and said, "Hello?" You sighed and sobbed once more. "Amber... I need you to-" You said before she cut you off. "I'll be there in five." Then, she hung up. You opened your window and snuck out with a pair of sunglasses. You couldn't go down stairs and use the front door because of your father so your only option was the window. You scooted yourself along the rooftop, pain striking your body, and you came to an edge with a ladder that you had propped up here for these exact situations. You climbed down it and let your feet hit the ground. You pulled the sunglasses off of the top of your head and placed them over your face. You began walking towards the gate of your house. Amber would be here any minute and then, you could finally leave this horrid place. You sat outside of your house and patiently waited for your girlfriends arrival. When her car finally came in sight, you jumped up and watched her pull beside you. You didn't hesitate to open the door and jump in. You sat down and buckled your seatbelt. You then laid your head against the window and sighed. Amber grabbed your hand and kissed it. "I love you." She said, "I'll need you to explain later, okay?" You nodded. She began driving towards the direction of where she lives.
Amber pulled into her driveway and turned off her car. She got out and jogged over to your side of the car. She opened your door and grabbed a hold of your hand to lead you out. She shut the door behind you and tightened her grip on your hand. She looked up at you and smiled. Then, she lead you to her house. "My parents are gone on a business trip so, hopefully it won't be awkward." Amber said, unlocking her front door. She let go of your hand and motioned you to go into the house in front of her. You looked down and proceeded to walk inside. She walked in front of you and plopped down onto her couch. She patted the spot beside her, hinting for you to sit. You sat down and avoided her gaze. You were still wearing sunglasses and you knew she was going to eventually question. "So... What's up?" Amber asked, putting her arm around you. You leaned your head onto her shoulder and, with your luck, the sunglasses fell off of your face and onto Amber's floor. Your eyes widened in shock. She leaned down to pick them up but before she could see your eye, you excused yourself to the bathroom. You walked quickly towards the bathroom and locked the door behind you when you finally got inside. You breathes heavily and turned around, looking at yourself in the mirror. Your whole right eye was bruised purple and blue. You touched it slightly and quickly pulled your hand away as a reflex from the pain. You began to panic. "What would Amber say or think if she saw this?" You said to yourself. "If I saw what?" You heard from the other side of the door. "Umm... Nothing!" You said quickly, trying to think of a way to hide the bruise away. You pulled your hair out of the ponytail that it was in and used your bangs to cover that side of your face. Sure, you knew this would only work for a short amount of time, but it was better than nothing. You looked at yourself and the mirror once more and then exited. When you opened the door, you came face to face with Amber. She looked you straight in your eyes and her eyebrows slowly narrowed and her small smile faded. "(Y/n)! Oh my god, what happened to your eye!?" She asked frantically, moving your hair out of your eye to see the full bruise. You just stood there, not saying a word. "(Y/n), please tell me." Amber said. You sighed, realizing that you had to tell her sooner or later. "Amber... I have something that I need to tell you." You said.
