y'all wanted this so here you go
I spent days after the party trying to find who was behind the mask. I mean, in any other school it wouldn't be hard to find someone like that, but in a school with well over three thousand students, I must say that it definitely was not easy. I asked my friends, and they asked theirs, but nothing. I couldn't find anything or anyone with the same voice or eyes. Of course, it had only been a week, but I felt more and more hopeless everyday of not finding the persons identity.
"Any news on it yet?" My friend asked from beside me. I had my head resting on my hand, scribbling things into my notebook. "You'll find her, don't worry." Another one of my friends said, taking a bite of her lunch. I stayed quiet, listening to their daily conversations about guys, parties, makeup, and celebrities that I had never heard the names of. "He was totally checking you out though." "Yeah but, he's Kira's cousin! Girl code." "I mean, he's not unattractive." "Kira, you can not say that about your own cousin." Then, they stared laughing, and I started to scan the room.
I met eyes with a girl, a girl I had seen before. I knew her from somewhere, but I assumed that she was in my class and I had biology with her or something along the lines of that.
"So, are you going to the game tonight?" One of my friends asked me, poking my arm. "What?" I said, not fully hearing what she had said. "Are you going to the game?" She asked again, slower, rolling her eyes. "There's a game tonight?" I asked her, unamused. "Yeah, a girls basketball game." I sighed, not wanting to go but having to go as apart of my grade. "Come on, you're in pep band, you should keep up with this stuff!" Kira said from beside me. I rolled my eyes, knowing that she was right but arguing anyways. "Just because I'm in pep band doesn't mean that I care about some basketball game. There's one every week." I said, resting my hand on my forehead, feeling a headache coming on. "Besides," I continued, "You guys are cheerleaders. You actually get credit for showing up." But my statement was ignored, because they had already started talking amongst themselves again.
Seven o'clock in the evening
The band was setting up in the bleachers, and I was watching my friends fumble with their skirts and pompoms on the sidelines of the court. I didn't have many friends in band. Sure, I talked to many people, but not outside of a band event. "Does anyone even like girls basketball though? None of the players are even that hot." Danielle, one of my other section players said to me. I laughed at this, my attention on her now. "You're right though." I said, "But you're probably the gayest person I've met." She laughed with me, twisting her mouth piece into her trumpet. "Guilty." She said, opening our shared music binder.
A voice boomed, welcoming our basketball team and the opposing team. The audience cheered, and faintly, our band director yelled to play, "Go Big Blue." I put my instrument to my mouth and almost began to play until someone caught my attention. One of our basketball players.
There she was.
I was caught in thought that I hadn't realized that the band had stopped playing and had already sat down. "Hey, sit down." Danielle said, pulling on my shirt. "Who are you looking at?" She asked me, her question not registering in my mind. My focus was still on that girl. "Hello?" She said, shaking my shoulders. "What?" I asked, my attention now on her. "I said, who are you looking at?" She asked, and I couldn't tell if she was annoyed or genuinely curious. "Her." "Hun, there's a lot of-" "The girl with the short, blonde hair." I said, cutting her off and looking back at the court.
"Oh, number 5?" She asked, "That's Amber. Amber Liu. She just transferred here from South Korea a few weeks ago. She's supposed to be crazy good at basketball. Some even say she was the best at her old school." She said. "Why?" She asked.
So, I told her everything. And I couldn't tell who was more excited; her, because I finally had a crush on a girl at our school or me, because I had finally found out who she really was.
I waited on the court after the game, alongside my friends. They were talking about the game, but I was watching. Waiting for the basketball players to exit the locker room. "Hey, what are you-" One of my friends began to ask, cut off by me walking towards the girls.
"Hey, Amber!" I said loudly, getting her and a few other girl's attention. She stopped in her tracks, a puzzled look on her face. When I got closer, she smiled.
"Well Princess, you finally found me." She said, bringing me in for an embrace.
