Amber's POV

I rushed into the wide automatic double doors of the large hospital. The emergency room was already full of waiters, ones I assumed that needed to see the doctor. Which, luckily, I wasn't worried about seeing one, only her.

I let the front counter stop me with a hard impact and it knocked the little air that I had left inside of me, leaving me heaving. "Do you need to see someone?" The nurse asked calmly. I slowed my breath down a little and nodded my head. "No, I need to see someone please." I stated. She began looking through her files in a blue folder. "Name?" She said, her eyes not leaving the thick stack of paper in front of her. "(y/n), (l/n)." I said. She nodded her head and her eyes narrowed. "Ma'am, this patient is in critical condition. What is your relation?" She asked me, looking up at me. "She's my girlfriend." I said, my eyes drifting down to my feet. "Was, anyways." I added, whispering. "I'll have to ask the family members if it is okay for you to see her. It's more their decision than it is any of ours. They're the only ones who have been permitted back there right now." She said, twirling around in her chair to reach the phone behind her. I watched her nails dial some number and my thoughts drifted.

Why did I have to do that? I have no good excuse because something like this isn't excusable. If I wouldn't have done it, she wouldn't be in this situation. Every part of this felt like my fault.

"Ma'am?" The lady asked, tapping the desk beside where my arm had sat. Snapping out of my thoughts, I responded. "Yes? I'm sorry I must've-" "The family says that you can see her, but they want you to know that she isn't doing well. She hasn't woken up since she's gotten here and they aren't sure if she will. If you're not prepared seeing that, I would advise staying up here. If you are, she's in room 624B, on the second floor." She said, going back to tapping her pen on her desk. "Thank you." I said, walking over to the elevator. I was nervous, but not just because of facing her family and telling them what had happened, but seeing her hurt because of me.

The elevator dinged and displayed that I was finally on the second floor. The doors opened slowly, and her family was waiting for me in front of the doors. Her mother's small stature looked torn down and exhausted, and her fathers y'all figure looked terrified, but it was behind his stern look. Her mother grabbed my hand and lead me down the long halls, nurses heels clicking against the cold, white tiles. We stopped right before her room and her mom hesitated to meet my eyes. "Amber, do you know what happened? Why she was even out alone so early?" She asked me, her shaky hands taking ahold of the armrest behind her. I leaned against the wall and slid down until I hit the ground, the cold not bothering me. "We got into a fight and she.. left. But it was all my fault." I said, tears beginning to build up at the brim of my eyes. "I did something really bad, and I hurt her in a way that no one deserves." I choked out, trying to hide my face from them so they wouldn't see me fall apart. Her mother placed her cold hand on my shoulder and began rubbing circles. "She loves you very much, Amber. I remember the first time she came home after you two's first date. I've never seen such a radiating smile. And you know, the way she looks at you and smiles at you, it never changed, not even after all of these years." She said shakily, a hint of comfort in her voice. At this point, I let out a sob. "I'm so stupid, it's a wonder how she could love someone like me." I said. "I don't know what you did, but it won't change her feelings for you. Of course there will be some trust building, but she'll always love you Amber, and so will we." She said quietly. "Now, maybe go and try and see her? We've said all that we can." Her father spoke up, leaning off of the wall he was on. I rubbed at my eyes, looked up, and nodded.

I got up on my own two feet again, breathing in heavily and hesitating some. I was trying to prepare myself the best that I could, but I'm sure there wasn't much that I could do.

Finally walking in, my eyes were glued to my feet until I came right beside the bed. I looked up to see her long hair pulled up behind her face, probably done by one of the doctors or her mother. There were bruises everywhere, and her left arm was in a brace. Her face was torn in a few places from what I assumed to be flying glass. She also had a gash in her forehead and lip, along with deep bruises covering the rest of her pale face. I grabbed her hand and sat in the chair beside her, holding back the tears as much as I could. "My love, What have you gotten yourself into?" I began, "You were never the best driver. You get so distracted so easily." I added, smiling at some memories that flashed into my mind. "I love you, and I know that it's hard to believe right now, but I do. I messed up and I know that, and I know that you deserve someone so much better than me..." I said, the tears finding their way down my cheeks again. "I'd ask for you to forgive me, but that's useless. Instead, I want to ask you to allow me to fix this. You know that I'm hard headed and I make a lot of stupid mistakes, but this is major. I will make it up to you if you'll let me, please." I paused again, "I love you more than anything in the world, (y/n)."

But right after finishing that sentence, the small beeps in the background were now one, and she was gone.
