hah i see these a lot so you're welcome

The boys basketball team had always bored me, simply because even if we were good, we were too good, and we constantly won everything. And because the players were total douche jocks, and even if I was a cheerleader, I didn't put up with massive egos.

The only thing that kept me on the squad besides football season was the girls basketball team. Even if hardly anyone knew, I had a preference for girls most days. No one could deny that the star player, Amber Liu, wasn't attractive. I mean, even the straight girls eyed her. But besides all of this, for the first two games, we were stuck cheering on the boys. They weren't unattractive, and they aren't bad, but they're just ignorant and want one thing. Only a few of the cheerleaders were even remotely amused by this long, uneventful game, simply because their boyfriends played. Of course, we technically weren't supposed to look bored, but it was almost impossible not to, even though we all know that we'd have to run laps for this later.

Eventually, the game was over and the teams were giving out high fives. A painful requirement after every game, of course.

Then, music blared in the speakers again, signaling the pause before another game. The band was playing, and the crowd was roaring with excitement. The cheerleaders stood up and started smiling and jumping around. Then, the sound of frequent footsteps and shoes squeaking against the waxed pinewood floors. A few names were spoken from the other team who had come out first. Then, our team; the same process, but the cheers got only a bit louder when the speaker said, "And our senior star, Amber Liu." The even more funny thing was the way the other girls shrunk when they heard her name and saw her face, knowing that they'd have to give their all to beat her, even if most times, it wasn't enough.

We cheered and cheered until halftime came around. Halftime is when we'd do a routine on the court while the teams were either talking amongst themselves or getting water.

After the won game and after the loud crowds and aching muscles, we got to change and go home. The locker rooms were shared usually, by the girls basketball, the cheerleaders, and the P.E. classes. The lockers were separated, of course, but many of the girls changed where they pleased. And many of the basketball girls took showers and stuff after games, assuming that they didn't want to smell like sweat, ponsoil, and rubber for the rest of the night.

"Well that was uneventful in too many ways." My friend, Brittany, said from her locker beside me. "You're telling me." I said. She smiled and looked at me. "So are you going to talk to her or will I have to do it for you?" She asked, while I rolled my eyes. "Last time you did that, the girl never talked to me again and she gets scared every time she sees us walking together." I said, facepalming, laughing into my hand. "You love me. Besides, you're hard not to like. Don't be a pussy just because you eat it." I rolled my eyes again, trying not to laugh.

The locker room was almost empty now. Only a couple of cheerleaders and a few basketball players remained. Mostly of which decided to take showers, and me and Brittany of course. This was her idea, but she was my ride, so I couldn't exactly protest. My solution to annoy her the same amount was to start my homework that I had brought with me just in case I had the time to work on it.

"Hey, Amber!" I froze. "Can you come here for a second?" Brittany's voice sounded off beside me, her smirk evident even if I couldn't see it. The sound of footsteps got louder and closer to us. "What's up Brittany? How have you been?" The tall figure in front of me asked. I hadn't looked up, but I wasn't focused on my homework anymore. "I've been good. I've just been listening to my friend here," she said, nudging my shoulder, "going on and on about-" "Alright Brittany, she gets it." I said, interrupting her and finally looking away from my homework. Brittany laughed. "Anyways, she's too pussy to approach you, so here. I'll be in the car." She said, walking off with her keys jingling in her hands.

Amber reached her hand out in front of me, "I'm Amber." "I know, I mean, I know who you are and," I stopped myself to breathe for a moment. "I'm Kylie." "Oh, so you're the famous Kylie that I've been hearing about, hmm?" "Oh, uh, sure I guess so." I said, putting my books beside me. "My friends never shut up about you. All good things, of course. Then there's Brittany that tells me stuff about you." She paused. "She said has been trying to get you to talk to me for ages now a few days ago." I rolled my eyes. "I love her, but she's surely a pain in my ass." The sound of Amber's ringtone filled our ears.

"Fuck, my friends are outside." She said, slinging her bag around her shoulder. "But do you want to hang out sometime? I'd love to get to know such a girl like you." She asked. "Sure, here's my number." I said, writing it on a piece of notebook paper and handing it to her. She smiled.

"I can't wait to talk again."

And with that, she sprinted out of the locker room.
