Chapter 38
That evening, I bring the tie to Kile's Selection room.
"Are you even allowed here?" Julian asks.
"Yup. Do I look like Eadlyn?" I reply. "On second thought, don't answer that."
Kile opens the door. "Do you have it?"
"This is your last chance to leave it," I tell him.
"Nope. Definitely wearing it," Kile replies.
"She's going to kill you," I say, singsong.
I have to draw the line with what I'm willing to help Kile with when he starts whistling in the hallways. Loudly. I clamp my hand over his mouth, effectively shutting him up.
"Are you insane?" I whisper-yell.
When we get to the dining hall, I remove my hand from its position over Kile's mouth.
"You good now?" I ask. "But don't do anything dumb."
I walk into the hall and take a seat next to Ahren.
"Where's Kile?" Ahren asks.
"You'll see. When do you have to go back to France, anyways?" I ask.
"I don't know. Since Camille and I are still young, we can alternate between living here and France for the time being," Ahren replies.
"So you're staying here?"
"Yes."
"No more disappearing?"
"Nope. You and Kaden won't have to chase me to another country again. Where's he been, anyways?"
"Can't tell you."
"Please?"
"Nope. I made a promise."
"Oh, come on. I'm your brother."
"So's he."
"Please?"
"Ask him."
"What are you talking about?" Kaden asks.
"What promise did Celeste make?" Ahren asks.
Kaden blushes a furious red color. "Nothing!"
"Okay, now I know something's going on. The last twin secret you two had was when you were thirteen and walked in on Mr. Woodwork trying to exercise in his lounge shorts," Ahren says. "And you told me about two days after."
"Ugh, please don't bring back that memory. I'd rather never relive that again," I say.
"What are you taking about?" Emilia asks from the other side of the table.
"Nothing!" Kaden and I say. Unfortunately, Kaden's blush is even deeper.
"Ha! Now I know that it has something to do with her!" Ahren exclaims.
"Shush! Camille is watching!" Kaden says.
"Sorry, but that excuse doesn't work anymore. She knows my entire personality," Ahren replies.
I nearly choke on nothing.
"Jeez, I didn't think you'd choke!" Ahren says.
"Not you. Him," I say, pointing to Kile, who has, apparently, stuck random flowers in his tie. He's doomed.
Ahren, Kaden, and Emilia gawk at him.
I get up and walk over."Are you crazy?!" I ask. "You're making a fool of yourself!"
