First and foremost, they drink blood. They may also do one or more of the following: live forever, hate garlic, turn into bats, turn into smoke, have no reflection, hiss at crosses, sleep in coffins, burst into flames when touched by daylight, hypnotize people, turn into dust when stabbed in the heart with a wooden stake like on Buffy, run really fast and wear a lot of body glitter... I'm probably forgetting some things, but that will do for now.
